Tricks and treats

Hi folks,

Merry Monday from Rusty Towers! October has opened its doors and invited us to partake of the frightsome month, as we wend our way to Hallowe’en – and who are we to turn down such an offer. Getting into the spirit of things, join the crew as we offer up plenty of treats (and maybe a trick or two) to help the season’s festivities along.

And this is going to be very evident on RQ Streams! In homage to the month, and his own noted general aversion to games of the scary genre (see his playthrough of Soma on our YouTube channel), Mike will be braving the things that lurk in the darkness to showcase a number of classic horror titles. Join him for a Scary Games Season on Saturdays as he takes on Alien: Isolation, Outlast and Five Nights at Freddies!

And in the final week of October, I will join in with some lighter cosmic horror in Dread Nautical, as we prepare for a great Hallowe’en RQStreams crossover event on Saturday 31st. We’re keeping the details for that under a shroud for the moment; stay tuned for more on that soon.

But this week, we hope you’ll join me on Wednesday as we attempt our first Launch Day Special, as the long-awaited Baldur’s Gate 3 enters Early Access and I take a first look, as well as ponder the role of nostalgia in gaming. However, this is provisional on the game releasing & installing in time for my stream, so fingers crossed.

As for tricks, well, it’s time to test the RQ Crew’s powers of duplicity, disarming discussion and downright deviousness at delivering death, as we celebrate the major milestone of reaching 5000 followers on Twitch! In honour of this, we decided that we’ll finally indulge in some much-requested rounds of the current gaming hotness… Join us this Sunday, 11th October 3pm BST, for Among Us, a game of space treachery and impostor crew in what will be RQ Streams’ biggest multiplayer shenanigans to date. Watch across multiple channels and see if you can figure out who’s sus or not…

Now, we’ve been teasing Hallowe’en as additionally special on merch grounds for a while now. And I’m pleased to be able to announce that on that day, we will be launching a new store offering with TeePublic – plus a number of exclusive designs for The Magnus Archives! We’ve commissioned some new art in a very different style to what you’ve seen so far, a teaser of which you can see here… 

This store will run alongside our existing Redbubble offering, and offer a similar range of item options, all fulfilled by Teepublic. It will be live on Saturday 31st October around the time of the RQ Streams event, and we’ll be teasing more designs - including full images - as October goes on, here and across social media (ours and Teepublic’s), so keep a watchful eye out for those.

On the show front, we’ll be taking a break shortly in Rusty Quill Gaming to bring you our 2020 Hallowe’en Special. In another crossover with Stellar Firma, join Helen, Lydia, Ben and Tim, with special guest Imogen Harris, as they play Beautiful Space Pirates from Grant Howitt’s one page RPG collection! This is going to be one - well, three parts of a – wild ride…

The special will run 21st October to 4th November, and air concurrently on the Stellar Firma feed as well. And in other gaming news, folks seemed to enjoy the Duskhollow PD game we ran for The Magnus Archives during the Season 4 break, that we’ll be bringing you another one during the Act II hiatus, this time with some very special players drawn from the roll of show guests. But more on that closer to the time…
