EGSM 11 - Romance and Romance-ability

In today’s episode, you must allow Helen, Sasha, Lydia, and Maddy to tell you how ardently they admire and love the works of Jane Austen.

We chat about the trials and tribulations of how we got into the books in the first place, our favourite characters and relationships, and the various merits of the many film and TV adaptations of Austen’s work.

Top quote: "They feel small, but that's fine, because it is also a delighting in the smallness of real life and existing, and the skill that it takes to navigate those things."

I'm so sad I want to listen to the podcast that's Sasha says she does but she never says the name does anyone know

In regard to names, Jane Austen was the Jonny Sims of her time

alexceptional

I would 100% listen to 2 hours of this lol

Brigid

One of my final papers last year was literally "Emma is a lesbian and Knightley is a trans woman" every time I hear people talk about queer Austen I gain ten years of life

Crystal Wang

Once again, delightful and interesting and educational to hear people talk in-depth about very specific details even when I only have very basic knowledge of the topic. This was a particularly great cast, and I definitely had the reaction of "Oh, what, over already? :( I'd like another hour of thise!" :DD

Lovely episode all! ( Re, the end of ep: I mean, I know I would certainly be game for 2 hr enthusigasm episodes, especially when the conversation just naturally flows for that long, but I don’t know how popular it would be for the wider listening audience :P I do think longer episodes can be intimidating for many, including myself, but once you’re listening and get to the end, I’m usually thinking, “wait, no, I want to hear more!” But I don’t know how these episodes perform for y’all, or whether the time commitment is worth it for the listening numbers, but I’d enjoy it! )

Autumn Brooks

I've been looking forward to this episode all week!
