Oh man that's even better than what I thought he said. I thought he said, "you SMOKED her".

Moth

My name is Hannah and every time I listen to this episode and hear my name it make me jump 🫨

Nesdarnanner

Jon being able to do that is *probably* a bad thing, but I am as giddy as Martin about it lol

Rurrie

This is one of my favorite episodes due to the prose. It's incredible.

FyreFlye23

The poetry is sublime despite its grimes, or perhaps because if it. Performances were magnifent all around. My favourite line: "You SMOTE it!"

marie CD

This one had Edgar Allen Poe vibes. I loved it!

Tabbatha Dunn

He can do that?!

Sigurd

A friend of mine texted me to ask, "Tell me, as someone who judges such things: was this weeks episode of TMA a good poem or a bad one?" and "/very Jon-like in her poetry appreciation as you know". This is my string of texts back: That is /great/ poetry as voiced by Jonny Sims, my god. Probably also effective as words on a page, but he really nails every little nuance of it - and what a tour de force of breath control! I am In Awe it really enhances the creepiness of the content - doing it as poetry adds to the effect because it liberates even more from the comfort of usual syntax, usual sentence length, usual care not to let the music of language start to take control of where the sense is going In the context of the circus, amping the musicality of the language and loosening its familiar patterns to make words themselves go a little Stranger is pitch perfect skew of form for skew of function and I LOVE IT :D === tl;dr wow wow wow, and, I would LOVE a text transcript of this, gosh. -J.J., who occasionally commits poetry herself

JJ Hunter

Oh this one fucking RIPS

CaesarVulpes

I don't even have words to express how incredible this was. Everything about it- the writing, the characterization, Jonny, Alex, and Evelyn's performances- I'm just utterly speechless. Thank you all so much for bringing this to us!

Sam Lueke

Me: Absolutely FERAL for monster!Jon. absolutely love it Also me: worried that maybe he is losing himself a little considering it seems he didn’t really have control over himself at that moment?

Evangeline

Nausea, because of the horrible things in it!

Lasgalendil

Fantastic statement! I'd love to read this one in verse form (or however the script is formatted) if you'd consider releasing it as a Patreon bonus.

Briar

Alex has mentioned before that sometimes voice effects layering with environmental effects can be too much and tank the quality/audibility, so that could be a factor. Also, they’re outside, not in the institute or underground tunnels, so some of that reverb wouldn’t be as significant. And I wouldn’t be too surprised if Not!Sasha chose to present as “human” “Sasha” to taunt them

Nicky

This was amazing on every level, and hats off to Evelyn, who really brought it!

Meredith

That was so good and amazing.

James Rule

one word: sexy.

ledgem

Transcripts are being prepared, it's just a question of time, I'm afraid.

Rusty Quill

Elizabeth has been doing an absolutely fantastic job on the soundscaping for this season.

Rusty Quill

We'll bear that in mind, but we tend to cover that under "body horror".

Rusty Quill

I absolutely love it when Jon goes Eye-feral-angry, AMAZING!

Rebecca Dupont

This season is some of the best horror ever written. Well done.

Mammon

Well this was nothing short of astounding. Every episode of this season I continue to be blown away by how each statement feels exactly like a condensed nightmare but THIS. I had to concentrate so hard to feel like I was keeping pace that I felt like I was EXACTLY in the place of the victim trying to outpace the relentless pursuit. What I love the most is how this is a perfect use of the medium. I look forward to reading the text of this episode but no visual could ever evoke what Jonny's performance brought to life out of this. I really can't say enough. It's brilliant.

Mallory Sunshine

not only was this gorgeous to listen to i absolutely got CHILLS at the end!!!

Dez

I AM LOVING IT!!! tho English is my second language, and I need to concentrate harder than usual, this eps is AMAZING! Will there be a manuscript for this eps? I’d love to read it.

Grace

I love how impressed Martin sounds at the end. I am also very impressed with Jon. I didn't expect him to do something like that but I can't say I didn't love it.

Eboni Daniels

As soon as I heard the statement being read in a poetic cadence I may have teared up a little not gonna lie

Anna Godfrey

Incredible

Brooklen Ashleigh

i thought i couldn’t be more impressed with the writing, but then jon. jon. also martin was extra good in this one

A. Kamil

Ahh same, I literally just listened to it this morning! Giving me the spooks in a good way.

Zorya Dolgushkin

Also Martin wanting so badly to listen to his poetry!!

Zorya Dolgushkin

Whaaaaa amazing!! Yes to Stranger poetry statement! And I love how the cadence of it mirrors the action of the merry-go-round. Jon going full beholder badass on Not!Sasha and Martin being absolutely gobsmacked and in awe of him. This season just gets better and better!

Zorya Dolgushkin

HoLy sHIt, hOLy ShiT, hooooLY SHIT 😍😓😱😲😨

Jampersand

Martin: What about the merry-go-round? The Archivist: I don't know Martin: Why you always lying? Mhmm, oh my god.

Nick Oliverio

This statement was SO captivating and original, absolutely loved it!

Gabriel Wolfe

Me: It’s okay, you don’t need to listen for a 17th time Me @ me: TURN YOUR GAZE UPON THIS WRETCHED THING

Devin Goodman

Dizzying. Going to have to listen to this a few more times to appreciate it, it can't wait for my next turn on the Magnus merry-go-round. Out of interest, why didn't Not-Sasha have her spooky voice? Was she appearing in human form?

Robbie Lyons

I do not understand how he managed to avoid tripping over any words. Further proof he is actually a supernatural entity!

NotAVandyGirl

This episode is second only to 159 in the number of times I yelled “Holy shit!” while listening. Wow.

NotAVandyGirl

I love it when Jon flexes his Archivist abilities when he's angry.

Jericho

S5 keeps giving things I never even knew I wanted. Excellent poem like wow

Nide

I would like to point out that the prose of this episode was outstanding and I am continuously wowed by the writing on this show. That being said, my first thought at the end of the episode was “pew pew! eye powers activate!” but that’s just a me problem.

Φ

Jon casts Power Word: Kill , the episode.

Φ

I really just sat with my mouth open like a fool for 20 minutes, unbelievable.

Mantha Grant

Wow. I sat in astonishment as I listened to this performance

Marissa Mendoza

Best written episode? Best written episode.

Cat Thompson

What a marvelous sound experience this season has been every. single. week. That was fucking BADASS!!! I think I'm going to relisten to this one quite a lot.

Rudy Urroz

Wow...Not-Sasha just experienced the most fatal game of Peek-A-Boo!

JA Baldwin

WOAH! The rhyming "statement" was fantastic. I'm really enjoying this new season.

Sofia Gustafsson

Flexing some seriously impressive poetry muscles there, Jonny! Beautifully horrifying, as always <3

Linnéa Sandberg

I'm in love with this. Always knew Martin was ride or die

LainyJP

MARVELOUS

Finn Patrick

Man, this series is too good for us.

Craig J. Rickard

Daaaaaaaang jonny boy

Jax

Good holy HELL. If Shakespeare, Poe, Geisel and Lovecraft collaborated, they couldn't have made a more hair-raising, brilliant piece of poetry. This episode is getting a couple of listens back to back right now to appreciate. Rusty Quill, you should know I'm going to come back to this series like an old friend again and again.

Andrew Hamilton

The Stranger/the NotThem are my least favorite of the entities being that they freak me out the most. As soon as I knew it was going to be their episode along with the 'character death' in the content warnings, I spent the entire episode in a state of anxiety. Now that that fantastic ending occured, I can listen to the episode again and enjoy it for its horrifyingly descriptive nightmare poem.

E.A. Fleming

This episode was wonderful as always! Jon's breath control was a-ma-zing, I'm speechless. I think I'll listen to this one over and over again.

Julia Soares

Two quick things: 1) I loved the scattered rhythm and rhyme of Jon's "statement." It's just close enough to classical poetry to be recognizable but off enough to be disturbing. Perfect for the Stranger (just like the Beekon episode). 2) that ending. Holy. Hell. That's all I can say without spoiling it, beyond saying I listened to it three times in a row and found it wonderfully satisfying. Excellent episode.

Mark Sutton

JON YES!!

HoloXam

i’m going absolutely ham and eggs. i am losing it. i have listened to this five times. i am going to magically turn this mp3 into a dish and consume it

Ailem

OMG IM SPEACHLESS

Igor

WOW

fromgloriousjupiter

Funky Fear Apocalypse! Wonderful turn of phrase and perfect for Season 5. Bravo! 👏

Gilligan Mungus

Oh my Cheesus!!!! That was AMAZING!!!! Go John!

Gilligan Mungus

Also damn Martin really is into monster!Jon huh

Eli Lass

Absolutely incredible! Though could I ask, do you mind adding "skinning"/"skin horror" as a trigger warning please? it's one of my big squicks and I think people need to be ready for it.

Eli Lass

The rhythm of this episode is just do lovely. Alex was right, this is a fun one. This is definitely an episode I could listen to again and again just because.

romi רוֹמִי

The poetry! The weird murder! The Martin! What's not to love? Once again I am delighted by how much I just really hate the stranger, and really appreciate Martin in this funky fear apocalypse.

Mars J

i swear, if you told me Jonny did the whole statement in one take i wouldn’t even be surprised. what CAN’T the man do

red

i was well blown away by that. both the writing and the performance was absolutely stunning, thank you for that

Enea

That was really fun!

Opaline illyria

wow, this episode was incredible and I am once again blown away by Jonny's diction and voice control. That was an INCREDIBLE reading

elizabeth p.

Okay. This was incredibly creepy (in a good way) but also very satisfying to listen to.

Skoegul

That was cool. That was very cool.

Lauren G

Legit just re-listened to the Unknowing a few days ago, nice to hear that music again! Also Martin's excited reactions to not only that last bit but by the idea that Jon had a 'carousel-phase' are so, so delightful.

Nicole Stevenson

THIS WAS INCREDIBLE!!!! God the way that statement carried was everything, I'm constantly baffled by how incredible the writing is, episode after episode. Remarkable work, as always!! <3

Celadonleaf

Dang! That was a really good poem!

Courtney Kelly

The Archivist has Eye lasers pew-pew! GREAT episode!

Brian Taulbee

I love how poetic and rhythmic the writing in Season 5 has been! This one especially!!

Emory Kjelsberg

Oh woooow.....Ok The Stranger and all things Uncanny scare me so I'm legitimately freaked out by this episode. Favorite fun thing..... Martin's delighted "WHOAAA" Yeah that's right, Martin, your man did that!

LainyJP

This just have me so many chills! Time and time again I'm so extremely impressed by the amazing quality of the writing. 💞

Mattanja Koenz

Oh, i see, a different sort of revolution!

Of Winter

NOT SASHA? i am excit.e Also the name of that episode... nice
