[NOBLES] Grizzop's Backstory

This the backstory Ben submitted for Grizzop. Any content which could give away plot points has been removed.

Born in Amsterdam he (like the rest of his clutch) scraped an existence on the fringes of civilization, living in the sewers of the city. During this time he stole and scavenged, but never progressed to outright murder (although stripping drunkards of their possessions did probably lead to a few deaths from exposure). When he was 3 (human years) a flash flood destroyed the tunnels where his clutch was sheltering. He managed to find a drainage grate where he clung, screaming for his life. He was picked up by Eva van Dijk, a Paladin of Artemis who was working as part of the emergency response team in the city. She took pity on the still juvenile Goblin, and the others in the cult bet her that she couldn’t train him to be a Paladin herself. She took the bet, since what harm could it do? At the very least she could give this Goblin a decent education. 

Although he wasn’t particularly bright or quick-witted, he was fun, charming, nimble and (to her great surprise) completely honest once she’d managed to drum the tenets of Artemis into him. She won the bet, but never told Grizzop about it. Something she and the others of the cult feel slightly guilty about to this day.

By the time he was 9 (an unprecedented amount of time for a Goblin to be in education), he was a fully trained Paladin of Artemis who was fervently devoted to Eva, the cult, and the goddess herself.

Driven by this fire, Grizzop set out as a Paladin Errant, and travelled the world seeking out those who preyed on the weak, those who needlessly disrespected nature, and those who were cowardly, to teach them the lessons of Artemis. Although many people he came across mistrusted him due to his race, he plowed on regardless with the determination only those filled with faith in a higher power possess.

While in Berlin he met another goblin, Vesseek who was struggling to survive a particularly brutal winter. Remembering the kindness Eva offered to him, Grizzop used all the money he had collected in his travels and provided Vesseek and their clutch rent for that winter (as well as… persuading… a landlord who was reluctant to have a bunch of Goblins at his property). He still sends money back to them as and when he can, keen to give others the chance he was gifted by the grace of Artemis.
