Adventures in talk and space

Hi folks,

Merry Monday from Rusty Towers! As the heatwave continues to roll through the UK, we’ve thrown open all the windows, broken out the icepacks and are debating whether to hire a palm frond waver specifically for Casper. Aside from that, though, we are hydrating and getting on with production.

Last week I talked about Enthusigasm, a new Patreon show, hosted and run by Helen Gould. After some discussion and realising that there are a lot of folk in the company with things to say about Lord of the Rings, it’s been decided that this pilot run will now consist of 12 episodes! Preliminary recording starts this weekend, and we’re really looking forward to seeing what arises from chatting. 

Quick update on the milestones front – our $28K goal was reached a little while ago, and I am very pleased to announce that we have now been able to enact it. This means that all crew will now be paid for their hours at a minimum of £11/hr (or equivalent in local currency for our international crew), which brings it over London Living Wage (£10.75/hr as of November 2019). Thank you for the support that helps us to continue to improve what we can offer folks who work for Rusty Quill.

A quick note about RQ Streams – keen viewers will have noticed a lot of schedule changes recently, notably in the number of streams a week. This is all part of us still being experimental in working out what works best for the channel and the crew who are streaming. We will likely remain testing things for a while yet, so do keep an eye on the schedule, here or via Twitter/Discord for up-to-date info. On that note, please be aware that Mike’s Saturday stream this week is shifting an hour later to a 4pm BST start.

You’ll also continue to see more new faces, both from within the crew and outside, as well as more folks returning! Coming up this week, Trexel & David re-awaken in robot form for more Portal 2 testing, and Bryn returns with Kingmaker next week. You can also look forward to more folks from the production & editing teams popping up. And in a special crossover event, tune in on 22nd August as Australian streamer LuckyBonez joins Mike for thrilling adventures in Dead by Daylight!

In connected stream news, a reminder that former crew member and comedy host extraordinaire, James Ross, is currently running a regular ‘comedians play D&D – many for the first time’ show on the Quantum Leopard Twitch channel, with guest appearances from other RQ folks as well, and adventures run by GM Autumn Jarvis.
