From the chaotic to the cosmic

Hi folks,

Happy Monday from Rusty Towers! Not a big update from us this week as we get ourselves ready for the start of Act II of Season 5 of The Magnus Archives. But more on that in a bit…

Those of you who are on the official Discord server will see that we have reorganised things a lot in there, having stripped back a lot of the channels, while refocussing the server on the key aspect of it being a podcast server – notably for chat about the shows that we produce. Based on valuable feedback from the community and a re-evaluation of our own resources, we realised that we had not kept pace with the rapid growth (more than 5000 new members since January) in a sustainable way. 

Thanks to the sterling efforts of my new team (only made possible by your continued support & generosity), Autumn & Quinn have worked hard to start the improvement works, and part of this will be greater transparency about how the server runs and is moderated. This will be ongoing work too, as we look to make it a more welcoming space to discuss our podcasts. If you are a new or returning visitor, do make sure to check out the revised community code and channel guide.

Thanks as well to everyone who tuned into the various shenanigans this weekend on RQ Streams – as you might imagine, things proved to be somewhat chaotic, and a lot of fun was had, particularly on our side. And for those who didn’t see, some of the Wave 2 merch designs were shown off live on air in physical form, and all the new designs are now live in our Redbubble store!

This week also brings us the resumption of adventures through a tormented world, as we open the curtain on Act II of The Magnus Archives with MAG177. We’ve had six weeks of relative quiet and some funny outtakes last week in particular, but we would like to remind folks that, as we said at the start of the season, this is a show about apocalyptic horror, and many episodes are going to hit harder given the current global situation. Please do heed the content warnings at the top of the shownotes, especially as we are starting off on a particularly heavy note. 

Act II will run from MAG177 to MAG189, which will air publicly on Thursday 26th November 2020, and will be followed by another 6 week interval to give some breathing room over the end-of-year period, before we return for the final run in January! And we’ve got a number of things planned for the second hiatus, including a series retrospective as we look forward by looking back on nearly 5 years of cosmic horror.
