Comments

I do still wonder if he actually went around the rooms talking to patients, if he was just talking and only we hear the sound effects, or if he was somehow making them / they manifested. Either way, definitely extra weird for Basira.

Rad Lad Robin

The visceral reaction I had of feeling helpless and trapped hit so hard I love it when episodes make me feel things but hoo boy did this make me feel so many things

The One of Many Voices

boy, glad I'm medicated or some of that might have hurt my feelings XD

Rurrie

"He needs to make a statement." "Is that like... a euphemism?" gods I've missed you, Basira XD

Rurrie

I adore this unrepentantly evil Hellen, and she creeps me out so bad.

Grace 'Gengar' Soria

Holy shit. This one got to me like very few others

Dan

Added to my list of episodes to not listen to while not doing well, double underlined. As it is, am in a good enough place to appreciate it instead - is it only avatars Jon can destroy, because disintegrating Dr David would be very satisfying.

Fitzlet

I just want to say, the one thing Jon says the most in this entire series so far is "Martin". The beginning of this episode has proved my point.

Another_Maxx

Just once I want Helen to say, "Watch it , Buster!"

Cher Carlisle

This was so gooood

Aline Macambira

Holy shit, that was an amazing sphere of the spiral. Chilling.

Rebecca Dupont

Great episode! The acting is sooo good! 👏👏👏💖💖💖

CrazyChopstick

This was intense. I liked the entire inverted way this story was told and absolutely understand why Basira was freaked out. I know it's wrong, but I love when Helen's on and I'm really going to miss her when the Archivist destroys her. But Martin's right, she's starting to get a bit more cocky in these later episodes. Great work, I missed this!

Heather MacKenzie

Super cool ep!!

Isabelle

I have Issues with the whole 'mentally healthy ppl trapped in mental hospitals' horror trope, so to see it inverted was really refreshing and super cool. Love Helen, love the pre-statement bit, love Martin and Basira complaining together, love the Martin/Jon moment, and I think this is probably the best Frank's voice acting has ever been tbh! Super cool episode, so grateful it's back <3

gojo fujoshi

Yes! I was expecting to me really horribly triggered but I'm not gonna lie, I mostly just laughed. Maybe it's a sign of having come quite far in recovery? I don't know. I certainly don't /blame/ the people who were triggered by it- I absolutely get that and understand it. That being said, it was essentially satire for me and became very cathartic lmao

gojo fujoshi

I missed this; me and the roommate lying on the sofa with the cats and listening to The Magnus Archives <3 Welcome back from break!

Anja Rendbæk

For me Personally, one of the scariest episodes so far in a sense. Well done! Also so good to have Basira back!

Jess Nicolazzo

VERY excited to see how things roll with Basira.

PeachyIndeed

Oof. Great episode. Hard, but great. Looking forward to actual introspection from Basira. Thankyou for the treat of Helen.

Laura Bailey

As someone who went through a depression and then a burnout, I can confirm this is the kind of fear that claws at you. Especially when medical professionals refuse to officially give you a diagnostic because you're a minor. And a big thank you for discussing that kind of subject without having the overall narrative blame the patients, or misrepresenting them. This was so vivid and well done! <3

Amélia Brouillard

This is a tremendously good episode ok but to the patron whose name is 'Peter Lukas' life insurance policy' you're hero of the week, I desperately needed that laugh THANK YOU

Mantha Grant

Holy shit I LOVED this one, yall killed it. Art is successful if it elicits a genuine emotional reaction in you, and this one definitely did it for me. Awesome work!!!

Lyla Hammar

This was a rough one that hit a bit close to home. Its good. Its really good. I have had to pause and stop this a number of times and am still not all the way through. At least I get to process through shit using this audio drama lmfao. thanks for providing such an outlet

Ezra Rose

Oof, this is probably the best handling of mental institutions in horror I've ever come across

Maika Cartwright

Doctor David is making me murderous. I am frothing at the mouth I am going to bITE

Jasper G

helen is my favorite character from anything ever

Dirk Strider

Wow. Gas lighting in reverse. Great episode. Heading for an intense showdown.

Phaedra A Kelly

several necks were Came For on this day. rip us and rip noah (though, rip may be a poor choice of words)

martin kachow blackwood

Lollll same... I'd forgotten how intense they can be. I can listen to RQG eps all day long but sometimes with TMA I need to lie down for a few hours after the new ep.

Anthony

CHRIST jonny's going HARD this season.. we love to see it!! This was truly horrific! I haven't had such a visceral reaction to anything in a really long time. My own stay in a psych ward was deeply unpleasant, it's nice to see the scary mental institution trope spun around so that people are forced to see how terrifying they ACTUALLY are... it's not the patients who scare you :/

Anthony

"you can't hunt a monster you refuse to see." wow. what a LINE.

martin kachow blackwood

Wow this episode was a masterpiece of sound, and really big feelings! Welcome back!

Mikey, Mike, and the Funky Bunch

Anyone else imagining Helen in a retro nurse outfit? Really good episode as always. Definitely a different take on The Spiral and the fear regarding mental health than expected.

LainyJP

30 seconds into the statement and I wanna deck this guy

A very wealthy divorce attorney

Ooof. That was...a lot. Jonny never ceases to amaze with his writing AND his acting. Switching between “brooding” archivist and smarmy Dr. David - beautifully done. Helen’s progression from victim to reluctant avatar to a full blown “what” has been so subtle. She gets a little more sinister every time she appears. Kudos to Imogen for her portrayal. Then there’s Alex and his soundscaping. FFS, you’re effing brilliant, dude. And Frank! It’s so good to have them back for an entire episode. I’ve so missed the weekly pain of this podcast.

Gilligan Mungus

After weeks of binging hour-long RQG podcasts, the half-hour TMA looks mighty short... and then Jonny and Co. remind us why they're only half an hour long.

Issendai

see you never, dr David >:(

HoloXam

Wow, Dr. David just sent me back in time to when I first came out as trans and had my mental health "treated". 20/10 guys, really well done, you really managed to get that feeling conveyed in a way I haven't really found anywhere else.

Syrus Brynger

this is like the first mental hospital horror that didnt make me fume from anger from how bad it was handled as somebody whos been in one and has trauma from it. good job 👍

Jennyclart

oh my god, they were having A MOMENT

sasmus

Honestly am I the only one who found the statement really humorous? Like as someone who has been to mental hospitals several times this exactly how some of my old psychiatrists and social workers acted towards me.

Abigail Espinoza

Jonny gaslights you asmr

Abigail Espinoza

Yikes!

GriffinsTreehouse

Gosh, this podcast has such vivid imagery... In my time zone episodes release at night so I lie in the pitch black and listen. Can recommend.

Lurkin

Glad you're back! Magnus archives has turned me into a horror fan - I never watched/read/listened to any before starting this podcast. It's really given me an interest in and appreciation for the genre. Great episode, thanks

Lurkin

this one was so good thank you

RaspberryHeaven

I’m going to say a big THANK YOU for the content warnings, this hit a little too close to home. It was incredible, though.

The Leo!

Fuck. That was an excellent episode but... Intense.

Laure Gagnon-Tremblay

OUCH. That was ROUGH!

fromgloriousjupiter

Audible finger guns and audible eye rolls y'all are wizards

Maddie

one of my favorites so far (as i have said after every single episode this season). super relatable for better and worse, and the banter was a good contrast to the intensity of the statement. super excited for the routine of serialization once more :)

Maya Peretz

So the prestatement is all about Basira pinning the eyepocalypse on Jon, the statement is about victim blaming people for things literally out of their control, and the post statement has Basira unable to fathom a criminal is a victim. This is about as subtle as a brick but I love it. Now I fear the first person who's going to tell Jon this wasn't his fault is goddamn Elias.

Arcturus

So excited for new episodes! Well done on this one!

Marianne weber

y’all came straight for my neck with this one..............

Ren MacKinnon

Fabric noises,,, the rq birthday stream confirmed what that means (poor Basira being a third wheel)

Ghost Dandy Mi

this episode hurt <3 thank you jonny thank you alex

Caligula

listening to alex read the patreon names was really calming after this episode

Citruslusche

Yikes. I did not know how much of a legitimate fear I had of doctors like Dr. David, so thanks for revealing that for me, Jonny. That was... intense. Lovely to have Basira back though. And Helen!

romi רוֹמִי

Fucking ouch dude. I hope people read the warnings. Welcome back!

Megan Aguilar-Ames

Strong start! Good to see you back

Adam Honeyman

Ooof, Dr. David. Big oooof. But glad Bassira didn't do a dumb!

Sadie Moon

oh no :)

sageybug

Welll that was fucking rough. I’m glad Basira is back at least.

James White

Omg that was intense. But great as always

Harley_treefrog

looks like I was right about it being the Spiral episode

Idris

Seeing these warnings.... i might have to pass on this one. But i'm glad you're back!

Eli Lass
