Beginning of beginnings

Hi folks,

We hope you were excited as we were about all of the news, updates and announcements we had last week. In case you missed anything, let’s do a quick recap.

On Monday, we announced the second wave of podcasts joining the RQ Network. The five incredible shows are: We’re Alive, I am in Eskew, The Silt Verses, The Milkman of St. Gaff’s and The Town Whispers. If you’d like to read about each individual show, we’ve written a blog on the Rusty Quill website introducing you to all five. We’ve been delighted at the response to this announcement, and hope that you’re enjoying these new offerings under the RQ Network banner. Have you started listening to any yet? Let us know in the comments below.

Then on Thursday, we announced a brand-new Rusty Quill audio drama production, Cry Havoc! Ask Questions Later. This Roman comedy of errors has been written and created by critically acclaimed writer and script consultant, David K. Barnes (he/him). It will be directed by the award-winning director, Amani Zardoe (she/her). Cry Havoc! Ask Questions Later will be coming to a podcast feed near you in late 2022.

Finally, early last month we announced a Rusty Quill Original production, Trice Forgotten, a nautical epic celebrating scientists of colour on their ocean adventures. On Friday, we introduced you to the crew who will be taking the helm: award-winning creator and lead writer, Nemo Martin (they/them) and director Morgan D. Givens (he/him/they).

Thank you for welcoming these hugely talented creators to Rusty Towers, and we can’t wait to bring you more news about our two new shows at a later date.

With so many exciting things in the works, including the as-yet-untitled RQG 2.0 and the public season of Enthusigasm, we do, unfortunately, have to bring something to an end. The main storyline for Stellar Firma ended in May this year, and since then we’ve bought you some incredible post-season content, including outtakes, science with Bryn, and the recent anthology episodes including David’s Place, TimeBots and Vice Admiral Fun. This week’s episode, No Love for Spies, will bring about the end of the post-season content. While this won’t be the last that you’ll hear from Trexel and David-7, the feed will be going quiet for a little while, to allow our talented RQ crew time to work on other projects. We really hope you’ve enjoyed the post-season content as much as we have and watch this space for future Stellar Firma updates.

Something we’ve been working on recently is bringing our Patrons even more bonus content to enjoy. With that in mind, I’m proud to announce: Pets of Rusty Towers, a comic strip written by our very own Katie Seaton and Tessa Vroom, with artwork by Tessa Vroom, featuring (you may have guessed it) the pets of Rusty Quill cast and crew. These comics, following the adventures (and misadventures) of our favourite furry friends, will be an additional Citizens+ bonus and initially will be released monthly. The first issue will be releasing next week – watch this space!

Last week, we released a very special episode of The Magnus Archives featuring the return of the incredible Sue Sims as Gertrude Robinson, reading a non-canonical statement written by the multi-talented Imogen Harris. We loved seeing your reactions and are so glad you enjoyed it, because this week we have another non-canon statement. Written by another multi-talented individual, Maddy Searle, this statement also comes from a Patreon prompt: That Face in the Window. This statement will be read by none other than Paul Sims as the mysterious book collector, Jurgon Leitner.

Finally, just a reminder that this month will be slightly quieter than usual over on RQ Streams, as Mike and Nico take some much deserved rest and relaxation. You can always check the Twitch schedule to see what’s coming up.

I started listening to The Silt Verses after learning about it from the RQ announcement. I'm four episodes in and loving it so far!

I mean I know it’s just the pets of Rusty towers (awesome btw!!) but if ya ever open it up to the general patrons I’ve got an absolutely mad basset mix (mutt) who is a total attention hog…. Just this afternoon I looked out my back window to see him happily sliding down the hill in my yard while barking.

A fond farewell to Stellar Firma! The songs will live on in our hearts (as earworms, for better or worse).
