RQG 186 - For Whom the Bell Tolls

Join Alex, Helen, Bryn, Lydia, and Ben as they behold the warped center of the Garden.

This week Hamid talks arcane theory, Cel hears a distant tolling, Azu spots some familiar faces, and Zolf is gonna go check the bulbs, then.

RQG 186 - For Whom the Bell Tolls

Well, that's going to be my headcanon regardless. Maybe all that wild magic did something to the rope.

Mel Andrews

Thanks for this important info! I'm just impressed that they forgot during the combat, remembered at the end of that (the "kiddie leash" conversation), then promptly forgot again.

ontologicallyunjust

Bryn said Alex & Ben just forgot, so the boring, sensible answer is that they cut the rope after the combat, but the fun, good answer is that they're now tied together for the rest of the campaign :D

GugTheGoose

And I'd assume that (given how close the group was before) that logically you'd cut it or tie it off shorter than 50ft, if only so nobody trips over the vast amount of loose rope trailing around during melee. Could be a back-up plan for Alex if they keep curb-stomping all his monsters -- TPK from tripping over rope.

I was thinking this too, the whole time Zolf was approaching the bud - just Wilde trailing along behind. lol I think they probably just forgot Wilde is still tied on (poor Wilde). I believe the standard length of rope in Pathfinder is 50ft (but don't quote me), which is a good distance, but I'm not sure if that would be long enough for Wilde to hang back with Hamid while Zolf and Azu investigate - it sounded to me like the bud was quite a long way away, mostly because it's so big.

Marie

I feel at some point they're either going to have to retcon this or define how long that rope actually is ...

ontologicallyunjust

Good question. I wondered about that too. I don't remember Zolf untying himself from Wilde. Plus didn't he said he did a solid knot, one you pretty much have to cut to get out off. Yep...our Sad Sea Dad isn't risking losing his Bard.

Aston Bentley

fascinating and terrifying at the same time. also, is Wilde still tied to Zolf? Did they untether before Zolf went to the bbbbbbbbong bud?

Lillian Collea

Yeeeesssss. Give me all the lore.

I love a good lore-heavy episode!

Jack Bird

I also thought timezones!

sAZAndorable

This title change struck terror in my heart, just to say. Can't believe this was one of the episodes with the least things happening in it πŸ˜‚So excited!! Lore!! Dots connecting!! It's all coming together!!! Making me feel smart for having vague ideas and theories!!!!

sAZAndorable

*grumbles under breath* don’t want to wait *sits grumpily with arms crossed scowling *

great points!! yeah my vision of "timezones" in this world is more along the lines of "where is the sun right now and how is that different depending on where we are" so it's great to know that it pretty much lines up with the ursans' location! im wondering if that was the math alex was trying to do in the end outtakes-- trying to make sure he did the right number of bell tolls lol

Lena

Ural is UTC+5 in current timezones, and would be +4.5 if the political timezone matched the meridian (Ural has the Khanty-Mansi area that the Ursans are inspired by and which fits the description of the airship's path), but timezones, if an official thing at all, would probably only have been in Meritocratic lands so a +6 could still work- it's only the party who are timekeeping.

GugTheGoose

two things: 1. svalbard global seed vault, but make it high fantasy 2. it's around 2 pm when the party hears the bells, and the garden is somewhere at the midpoint between japan and svalbard, meaning the time difference could definitely be +6 to london time. also, if the party was right about the final bulb coming from the dead simulacrum in the london sewers, that's some amazing planning from alex and also what if wilde hadn't asked the meritocrats to burn the factory that had hundreds of simulacrums????????? im losing my MIND with theories thanks for the lore drop alex

Lena

Ah lore finally! my crops have been watered thank u

Owleics

"Sick bell bro, who does it toll for?" "Well this is kinda awkward"

SpadesThicc

The soundscaping was great in this episode! Also, lore!!!!! Lots of lore!!!!
