MAG Roundtable - Making of Season 5

sims saying "hero?" is funnier in a post-slay the princess society

Sarah Tavana

This Is Just To Say I have purchased the mics that were in stock at the suppliers and which you were probably hoping to make a podcast with Forgive me they were useful and I got there first

ontologicallyunjust

I love organized Lowri is - coming prepared to the roundtable with exact dates and data <3 And the recording-equipment-organization-super-algorithm-spreadsheet sounds like a feat!

Oya

This was delightful!! It's always so lovely to hear you all talk about the process!

Fushi

I remember listening to early season 5 and being like "the soundscaping :OOOO". Elizabeth did such a good job, I have NOTHING but respect for her work!!!

Amalie Kirstine

Last physical recording, whoop.

Fitzlet

Alex: 'No one wants a 10 episode office romance!' Anil: *takes a deep breath*

Skoegul

I've started listening to the show again since episode 200 and I'm really appreciating the soundscaping so much more the second time around. There were some episodes where I was really aware of it the first time, but for the most part I was just focussed on the story. This time I'm more conscious of what it's doing and I'm really excited to get to Season 5 again so I can hear all those little details I missed the first time. Having said that, I'm so grateful to Elizabeth and the team for putting so much effort into the atmosphere of the show. It's always made it feel so real. I can't wait for more behind the scenes content - that's always my favourite part of a show. I love knowing all the details about how something was made.

Marie

I love these behind the scenes looks! Makes me appreciate all the effort of the RQ crew even more. Thank you so much, everyone! ❤️👍⭐

Northofantastic

The soundscaping in S5 was absolutely amazing every time - on release days I would listen once for the story, then once again with my really good headphones so I could pay attention to the background sounds &c and really enjoy it.

tiassa

+1 to the soundscaping causing my stomach to fall with each jump in 198. Stellar stuff

Red Lexford

Thank you so much for this.

Melissa Raney

Still listening, but quick shout out to Elizabeth who really did an excellent job. I never actively noticed the soundscaping, while also feeling very immersed, which is to me what makes it so good.

Sohastalitha

Cut to Martyn photoshopping Alex’s face on top of Smaug. Lol

Gilligan Mungus

do I love Alex? Yes. Is Alex also my enemy? Yes. (I would like my office romance please)

carlee

I always love the end of season behind the scenes content. Thanks so much for taking the time to make these episodes! It was really interesting to hear how this season came together, despite, and also because of, the challenges of the past year. I laughed so much at the thought of Alex buying up all the microphones in the UK and made noises of sympathy when Elizabeth described comforting herself to get the sound she needed.

Cammieo

Talk about a progamer move tho. While the rest of the world was hoarding toilet paper, Alex galaxy brained a little scarcity crisis all his own.

EmZeez

All I can picture is Alex laying on top of a pile of microphones like a dragon, protecting his hoard.

Cat Thompson

So interesting listening to what was happening at Rusty Quill when the pandemic hit. The story of Alex buying all of the mics was hilarious!

Sophia Smithers

As always, this was so good! It's really interesting to hear about the technical side of all the involved jobs (including the writing and the communications!), and also the chatting and banter between RQ people is always so nice and fun. I could listen to an entire podcast of just Alex talking about things with other RQ people, it's always so fascinating and unexpected. And YES the Salesa casting was fantastic at least from our end, and the fabric rustles were delicious. Thanks guys, as always!

sAZAndorable

This was so fun! Thank you for all the insight into the process as well as all the hard work you put into making this fifth season happen in the first place! I'm split because while I really loved the fifth season as is I'm also really curious now what those ten episodes of office romance would have been like!!

Zorya Dolgushkin

Thank you Elizabeth for the fabric rustles! Also, we could have have ten episodes of office romance?? Alex, yes, we wanted that!

Heather MacKenzie

Yeah who are these people who didn’t want multiple episodes of jonmartin?

Emily Arotin Wagner

Wow! Mad kudos to you guys for all the tremendous effort you put in on the technical side to make this work during the pandemic. And I will say I for one really enjoy my cosmic horror tragedy show as it is and I would have been bored to tears with an office romance with no plot and no horror lol. We got plenty of light hearted banter in s5 anyway; so hopefully everyone was happy. Thanks for all the effort you put into this. (also NGL salesa talking from behind bullet proof glass sounds really cool!)

ThirdFromTheLeft

Most of my other podcasts use Discord for recording so the idea of using Skype, which is notorious for taking control of audio settings, is wild to me.

Arcturus

Today I learned it was sweet, innocent Alex (not Professionally Spooky Sims) who came into my home and denied me "TMA is a office romcom".

EmZeez

I love listening to Elizabeth talk about the editing work, it’s been such a vital character this season, and it’s such a different technique of wrangling abstract fantasy writing into real world presentation than what Alex does, it’s brilliant to listen to

Sarah Hickey

Alex's mom: THIS IS A THING THAT YOU'LL HAVE TO DEAL WITH IN YOUR LIFETIME To be fair, she wasn't really wrong

Hayley Phoenix

I have never met Elizabeth I know I probably never will, but from that description of comforting herself in order to create Jmart tenderness, I relate to her on the deepest spiritual level possible

Maddie

“it will be twice as hard and half as good as you want it to be” SHOOK ME that’s such a perspective shift

james evelyn

This is incredibly fascinating! Thanks especially for talking about the editing (and tbh I’d love to see the formatting on those scheduling spreadsheets)!

faye

Alex please I want the episodes of office romance I beg you

Levi Goodson

Jonny wanting to experiment with the format was great. I did not know Horror Poetry was a genre before this.

Arcturus

I'm so glad that Lowri and Elizabeth are at the table for this!

Pine Hutch

ALEX I WOULDVE ENJOYED TEN EPISODES OF OFFICE ROMANCE

Nicole

Yes, "The Before Times"....
