Chapter and Curiosity

Hi folks,

Wishing you the very best for the coming week from everyone at Rusty Towers!

Firstly, we wanted to give you an update on our charity initiatives. Rusty Quill has been giving 10% of our Patreon income every month since March 2020 to the Covid Response Fund. We feel that 2 years later is the right time to look at other causes, and so for the month of March, we will be giving that 10% to UNICEF, in aid of helping children fleeing Ukraine.

We are committed to helping people with a portion of the money you lovely folks send our way, and we will be updating Patrons with our longer-term plans once we have them. In the meantime, if there is a cause, an internship scheme, a charity that would really benefit from these donations, please feel free to send suggestions to us at mail@rustyquill.com. Please note any beneficiary would need to be a registered charity or similar; we can’t give to Kickstarters or individual Go Fund Me campaigns, for example.

We’ve officially started recording for Chapter and Multiverse, our new actual play show and I think we can officially start the countdown to the very first episode releasing on 27th April. Stay tuned for more updates in the near future.

Next up, we wanted to give you a quick sneak peek at some work-in-progress merchandise, coming soon. We’ll be sure to let you know when this is available on our merch stores.

Can you believe that it’s been nearly a year since the finale of The Magnus Archives? The statement ended for the very last time on 25th March 2021. To mark the occasion, we have a Magnus-themed treat for all Patrons on Friday: Magnus Institute Job Applications. These are, of course, not canon, but do answer the question many of us have asked: What would it be like to apply for a job at The Magnus Institute?

It's another great week of RQ shows, starting with the third instalment of the Rusty Quill Gaming post-campaign Q&A. There’s a whole new set of questions, but the biggest question of them all is: will Alex ever tell us how Wilde got his scar?

Meanwhile on NPC, Mike and Rhys are still solving puzzles (and made-up crimes) in Escape Simulator. Will they make it through a room without having to reset this time? Find out on Wednesday!

On Enthusigasm this week we’re talking about Period Dramas. Joining Helen is Fay Roberts, voice of Daisy in The Magnus Archives, Imogen Harris, voice of Helen Richardson in The Magnus Archives and IMOGEN in Stellar Firma, Nemo Martin, the writer behind our upcoming show, Trice Forgotten and Rafaella Marcus, who is on the writing teams for Trice Forgotten and Cry Havoc! Ask Questions Later.

In some news from RQ Network, we’re really excited to let you know that the full trailer for We’re Alive: Descendants will be released tomorrow. If you haven’t yet seen the teaser for this highly anticipated sequel, you can find it on the We’re Alive YouTube channel. As Rusty Quill have been Executive Producers on this series, we’re really excited for the release and cannot wait for you to enjoy this whole new story from creator and writer, Kc Wayland.

Also from the RQ Network, we’re delighted that season 2 of The Silt Verses has been released today! The Silt Verses is a horror fantasy following two worshippers of an outlawed god, travelling the length of their deity’s great black river, searching for holy revelations. Season two is set three months after the season one finale, as factions across the continent scrabble to catch up with the recent events. We were lucky enough to have a short interview with Jon and Muna, who write and produce the show. If you’d like to listen to The Silt Verses you can find it on your podcast player of your choice, or on the Rusty Quill website.

1. Tell us who you are and a bit about your podcast

We're Muna and Jon! We're a couple of writers (literally; we met on a writing degree) and podcasters, with a passion for horror, weird fantasy, and dystopian science-fiction.

We have two shows on the RQ Network:I Am In Eskew, a spatial-horror series about life in a terrifying sentient city, and The Silt Verses, a full-cast folk-horror / dark-fantasy hybrid set in a world of gods, sacrifice, and transformation. The Silt Verses is just started its Season 2!

2. What got you into podcasting?

Nothing but luck! Jon had the idea for Eskew as a series of short stories, and on a whim he tried recording and narrating it himself. We had about a dozen plays in the first week, but then positive word-of-mouth started spreading about it, and over the next year it really took off! Since then we've still been haphazardly trying to find our way through the medium, figuring things out as we go.

3. What are you most proud about The Silt Verses? What should we look forward to in season 2?

Our amazing voice actors! We're really lucky to work with so many talented and fascinating VAs - moving from single-narrator to full-cast audio-drama has really opened up a world of possibilities to us. We're going to be seeing a lot more of them this season - some characters who had less of a focus we'll be seeing a lot more from, and of course we have some great new performers joining us as well.

Comments

I commend The Silt Verses to the attention of everyone who's not already listening. I got on board not long before it joined the RQ Network, via some recs from Magnus fandom, and it's good stuff. Very much its own thing (though it does have horrifying metaphysical entities apotheosis-izing and/or devouring their worshipppers and a strong “capitalism is bad” motif), but I think a lot of the Magnus audience would enjoy it. Also if you like tired and grumpy people who have deeply ambivalent relationships with their aquatic-themed deities … I’m just saying. All that and carcinization jokes in the season 1 recap, what more can you want?

Exciting exciting exciting!! I can barely process that it's been a year since the MAG finale and C&M is starting in a month... I have no doubt Nemo has many feelings about period dramas, and it's really nice hearing from the people involved in the upcoming shows and getting to know them ahead of release :D
