Prologue and Audioverse

Hi folks,

Wishing you the very best for the coming week from everyone at Rusty Towers!

First, yesterday we were delighted to find out that Rusty Quill and the RQ Network had won forty-eight awards at the Audio Verse Awards, including twenty-four for some of our RQ Network shows and eleven just for The Magnus Archives. We’re so proud of our behind-the-scenes team, especially our editors, masterers and producers, whose talent and hard work keep the wheels turning here at Rusty Towers.

To give you a quick run down of the awards, The Magnus Archives won eleven, including ones for music, action and environmental sound design, writing, vocal direction, performance, cover art and audio play production. Rusty Quill Gaming won five awards including music direction, player direction, performance and improvised production. Stellar Firma won eight awards, including music direction, action and environmental sound design, player direction, performance, cover art and improvised production.

We’re so proud of the RQ Network shows, who have also won well-deserved awards. Firstly, congratulations to The Milkman of St Gaff’s, who won Storyteller of an Existing Production and Existing Storytelling Production. Old Gods of Appalachia won an incredible eight awards, including original composition, music direction, action and environment sound design, writing for an existing production, storyteller of an existing production, cover art and overall existing storytelling production. A huge congratulations should also go to The Silt Verses team, who won ten awards including action and environmental sound design, writing for a new production, vocal direction, cover art, and four performance awards for guest roles and leading roles. Finally, The Town Whispers won four awards, including original composition, music direction, storyteller in a new production and new storytelling production.

We’re so proud of the entire team at Rusty Quill and our amazing RQ Network shows. Thank you again to everyone who took the time to listen to our podcasts and to vote for us.

We’ve been busily getting ready for the launch of our brand-new actual play podcast, Chapter and Multiverse on 27th April. GM Maddy Searle and a rotating cast of familiar and new voices are exploring the mysterious city of Chapter. Chapter exists in multiple parallel universes, and each campaign and one-shot will visit a different version of the city using a different gaming system including Masks, Monsterhearts, Corporate Overgoats and more. The only constant between every version of Chapter is The Eternal Tavern Keeper, played by Karim Kronfli. You never know when you may bump into the Eternal Tavern Keeper, but he seems to know more than he should. His exact role in the world is a mystery to everyone but himself…

The first main campaign of Chapter and Multiverse will be played in Masks: A New Generation, created by Brendan Conway and follows four superheroes, just beginning their careers as masked saviours of the city of Chapter. Joining Maddy for this introduction to Chapter will be Ahmed Aljabry, Lowri Ann Davies, Lydia Nicholas and Pip Gladwin. We’ll be meeting the players next week – and hearing more about their characters – in a special episode zero focussing on character building and the very first episode ‘Meet Our Heroes’.

We’ll also be running regular, shorter, specials alongside the main campaign. In fact, for the first few months we’ll be releasing a weekly special alongside the main campaign – so that will be two brand-new actual play episodes each week. The first special will feature a mixture of the current and upcoming cast for future campaigns: Ben Meredith, Helen Gould, Lowri Ann Davies and Lydia Nicholas. In the special, Maddy will be guiding them through a game of her own design: Vampire Cowboys (it’s exactly as fun as it sounds).

You’ll get your first proper look at Chapter and Multiverse next week, but if you can’t wait, make sure to listen to the current Raging Grannies special being played on the RQG feed. Featuring Maddy, Alex, and a few of the behind-the-scenes folks whose work you’ll hear on CHAP, Raging Grannies is a fun octogenarian adventure about a Blemishworthshire Bake Off gone… weird.

In the rest of the week, we have a brand-new series on NPC, where Mike and Rhys are joined by a new special guest: Serina! The three will team up to play creepy paranormal investigation game, Phasmophobia. As always, they’ll be making the game their own, and competing in a challenge to win an amazing reward – find out what the challenge is and – more importantly – what the reward will be, on Wednesday!

Congratulations! Many of us tried to coordinate our votes to get some of the so-far-unrecognised RQ lot a well deserved award. Like formerly-award-adjacent, now award-winning Tim Meredith! I'm sorry to see that Helen didn't get an individual award due to the awards' alphabet-based approach. I hope Helen knows that he's just as well-loved as anyone else on your podcasts!!! Can't wait to learn more about Karim's role. It sounds *super* intriguing. I'm really looking forward to C&M starting. Can you tell us even a vague timeframe for Cry Havoc and Thrice Forgotten?

Franzis-Frantic-Thoughts

Congratulations for the achievements, and so much excitement for all the stuff coming up, oh my! A character called the Eternal Tavern Keeper played by Karim? I'm already in love.

I kept squealing louder and higher with every entry on the awards list until I'm pretty sure by the end I was only audible to dogs, bats, and dolphins. On the moon. Seriously, congrats to all the shows and cast/crew - very well deserved indeed! I am sad to say goodbye to RQG (I finally made myself listen to the last two Q&As today), but I can't wait for C&M!

Ollie of the Beholder
