EGSM 8: Reader beware... (Horror books)

In a special spooky episode for Halloween, Annie, Fay, Helen, Martyn, and Tai discuss horror fiction. They chat about what makes a book a ‘horror’ rather than a thriller, which stories scared them the most, and which stories from childhood still give them chills.

EGSM 8: Reader beware... (Horror books)

Comments

I remember that tunnel bit so clearly from my childhood reading, and it still gives me the horrors, but I had no memory of which book it was from -- as soon as it was mentioned I went OH YEAH, IT'S THAT ONE ISN'T IT.

I don't even read horror, and I loved this! Clearly we need a podcast just about children's books. This children's librarian would be happy to help.

Lark

Lots of very good points, and everyone's childhood stories were adorable <3

Cassidy

Librarian knowing laughter at Helen's confession about library usage :D This is such a lovely and cosy episode somehow (once again)!

sAZAndorable

Yes, this would be quite useful for a lot of Enthusigasms!

Kari Keeling

Oh, dear, that tunnel escape - I read it in my 40's, and I have to avoid ever thinking about it or I get stuck on that particular terror.

Elizabeth Pemberton

This was so enjoyable, and since the Feed series by Mira Grant was mentioned, I'd like to shout out Into the Drowning Deep by the same author. It's incredibly realistic killer mermaids and it's *amazing*. (I yell about it every chance I get because I loved it so much)

Wendy Reed

this was so great! I was brought back to so many memories of books I loved. Have you all thought of compiling a list of the books discussed in this episode? there were a bunch i would love to check out

This was a wonderful ride through my childhood book reading (especially the Owl Service and the Dark is Rising). Helen has reminded me of crawling through the West Mine in Alderley Edge in Cheshire which the Earldelving in Weirdstone is based on. I am tall and it was very tight!
