RQG Epilogue - Part 1

Comments

Two years too late but I also get them.

Khes

This ep is further evidence for my theory that you can track Zolf’s psychological growth through how he NOPE-es out of situations. Prague, he flat-out leaves (and I’m not saying it’s the wrong decision given where his head is at then). After the kobolds arrive at the inn and he blows up at Hamid, he initially threatens to go to the coast and break the quarantine completely, and has to be talked into retreating to his room instead, but does do that and emerges eventually. At Barrett’s, he leaves but only as far as the steps outside, and manages some minimal communication (telling Wilde he needs to be left alone and for everyone else to have the discussions without him). This time, he can actually say that stuff’s gotten overwhelming and he needs to go have a “scoot about” on his own, *and* make it clear that he really is coming back soon, this is not him leaving again. Sometimes that’s what it looks like, you know? You don’t get to stop being chronically depressed or having bad patches, but you get better and better coping skills around it.

I can see university being one good option for Hamid. He’s smart but we know from Bryn that he did badly at university the first time round because he didn’t work (plus hanging out with some really terrible people). His arc has all been about inheriting vast power, stuff you didn't earn or deserve but just GET for free, and the responsibility and guilt of working out what to do with that. Now he doesn’t have that Instant Destiny any more, but he’s also got the possibility of finding out what he personally wants enough to work at it, even when it doesn’t result in instant success. Even if it takes a lot of trial and error to find that thing. I wonder what mundane subject Hamid might like to study?

ontologicallyunjust

I think, he really suffers the most because the magic was literally in his blood. He knew magic almost his entire life long. So it does make sense that he would suffer a lot now that it's gone because he is not whole anymore ... I really hope, he and Zolf are talking to each other again. They have more in common than they ever had before ... Bryn does an amazing job tbh 🥰

NoyneKehmaya

oh. oh no.

Cat Thompson

Also I feel someone's got to say it: BRYN IS A MONSTER, BUT WE RESPECT HIS CRAFT.

ontologicallyunjust

Also have we commented on Hamid only drinking water (when that was not his preference before)? Oh poor kid, did you discover that alcohol is a hazard for you? I can see him having a bad patch and then realizing that it'd be dangerously easy for him to follow in Saleh Jr's footstep's.

ontologicallyunjust

I was really hoping the lack of magic would be a sort of buffing of the planes. As if Myriad hasn't finished clearing out from the rest of existence. So once the magical/divine planes are clear of them magic will come back.

I really hope that Hamid takes Oscar up on the suggestion to go see some theatre...and then realizes that some of the most popular plays currently playing are 'new' Wilde plays that we never got to see in our version of reality (because in RQGverse, Wilde lives, having been freed from his chains). Relistening this morning, my brain kept rewriting 'Soggy Cabin Boy' to 'Soggy Dragon Boy' for Hamid's opening appearance, help. (Oh Hamid - your current feelings of stuck and ashamed are deeply relatable; please follow Zolf's example and actually accept Azu's invitation for at least a trip, it's okay to take a break and get help from your friends when you don't know what to do.) Cel's dedication to rebuilding social infrastructures as much as technological ones are such a delight. I really appreciate the accessible boat refit, and the accumulating crew of old friends setting their hands to new purposes. It would be so much fun to have a collection of short adventures of their travels together. Azu has my entire heart and then some. I am so glad she's growing into herself - I think she's already becoming the leader she aspired to be when she joined LOLOMG. I will need to come back with better words for Zolf's little arc here, but gosh that hit hard and I have a lot of feels about it and I am SO GLAD he's finally ready to try out living with Oscar outside of mortal peril times.

JJ Hunter

i probably should have taken previous comments as a sign not to listen to this in public, but what's a little crying in the middle of the street over your favourite sad dwarf admitting he needs help? seriously, this was amazing

moth

Can I just say that I hope to hear another "I'm a lonesome drunken dwarven sailor ... I am on the sea ... I can take to the sea whenever I do please ... I like to be on the sea, I like it when I float ... I want this boat to not sink, please don't sink, please don't sink, boat" ☺🙏🏻

NoyneKehmaya

millenials killed the magic industry

sAZAndorable

Unable to find work in the area he studied due to a drastic change in the economy? Feeling kind of sad and listless? Having no luck turning his passion into a paying job? I think Hamid is a millennial.

Cat Thompson

Hum I'm getting super weird sound bugs at the beginning that make it almost impossible to understand what everyone is saying? Am I the only one?

Obsessed

No spoilers but I just want to say that I really appreciate that Ben didn't just take the easy path and give us what I assume he knows we want. He was very true to the fact that Zolf is a character who's always struggled with his mental health and connecting to people, and I like that he's been consistent with that. This episode left me with a feeling of hope for him, though, and I'm eager to see where the other epilogue episodes take him (and Wilde).

Marie

I loved this so much, Zolf admitting he needed help, be still my beating heart! Hamid deserves to be happy too, just get on the ship!

Pip Walker

So much this! I wanted to shake him. Poor Hamid

Pip Walker

I am not going to survive these epilogues, am I? Also: Damn you, Ben Meredith, for putting the image of Chippendale Zolf into my head. 🤣 I know too many IRL burlesque dancers and my mind helpfully suggested several outfits for that!

Ollie of the Beholder

Gosh that was so lovely and in character. *sniff*. I need to watch some kitten videos to recover though.

Ashra

Didn't cry during 218, but now I am!! The pain!! Good episode, everyone. Thank you for this.

AJ Codling-Martinez

the bloopers being about a continuity error is really funny given none of them caught that it was the soggy admiral instead of the soggy captain 😂 maybe the quality went down so they rebranded lol Anyway this has me really sad, tho I'm glad half the party is doing well! I hope the narrative arc of the epilogue might be getting Hamid on board of the ship haha

TheCyanStar

Oof, Hamid 😭 I cannot handle this sadness. Get on the dang boat with Azu for #$@& sake! 😭😭

Wil Holmes-Roys

zoooolf ;w;

sAZAndorable

Literally crying rn ❤❤❤

Emily Palomo

Zolf continues to be my absolute FAVORITE depiction of trauma and mental health issues that people don’t like to talk about. Thank you Ben<3 and it was lovely to hear everyone sounding so jazzed to be back together. I’m going to miss RQG so much, but I’m really glad everyone involved was invested to the very end. You guys rock. I cannot wait to see where else this goes.

Anthony

This was lovely. Can I just say, Einstein is wonderful. Thank you 💫

Iggs

"bENEDITH MEREDITH WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS IM GOING TO SHAKE ZOLF AND THROW HIM INTO THE OCEAN" to "oh thank you this is so much more lovely than I ever imagined and i adore zolf beyond words". ... you need to explain this for me, please O_o I mean, I think I get you, but ... huh ... maybe I'm a little bit more "shaken" than I thought I would be O_o

NoyneKehmaya

I'm so happy we got to hear this!!! I love this world building and getting to know what is going on,,, also give hamid a hug challenge

spiderbeetlebee

i'm throwing ALL of the showers of confettis. this is WONDERFUL, so creative, so loving, so heartwrenching, and so cleverly and emotionally already answering or exploring questions I had about this Weird New World -- technology! religion! how each character feels about life without magic! Cel and Azu being so well-adjusted and adorable, and Hamiiiiiid... So full of admiration for everyone for all these thoughts. I know there's 2 more epilogues coming, but thank you so much already for the lovely closure AND fertile new ground for fanworks :DD Also that was the fastest I've ever gone from "bENEDITH MEREDITH WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS IM GOING TO SHAKE ZOLF AND THROW HIM INTO THE OCEAN" to "oh thank you this is so much more lovely than I ever imagined and i adore zolf beyond words". Not the first time by far, but incredibly fast.

sAZAndorable

Einstein having a toy shop just makes me think of Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium.

Jack Bird

Maybe it's just the people of Prague, you know?! That they MIGHT build up some mechanical backup stuff to "catch" the university island if something goes VERY wrong! So that they could get a chance to evacuate the citizens and THEN let it collapse on the city itself ... I can see that happening ... You can't set up a thing like a floating university thingy without safety measures just in case something went really wrong with the magical nonsense ...

NoyneKehmaya

Bah. Alex bringing Prague University down slowly is honestly annoying to me. It feels like a cop-out of the single biggest and most obvious consequence of the magic going away. If Alex was going to throw that in right at the end with no warning or way of stopping it, he should have accepted all the consequences, no matter how bad.
