EGSM 20: Strange new worlds (Star Trek)

Enter the final frontier with Cathy, Helen, Karim, and Marguerite, as they talk about one of the most iconic sci-fi shows: Star Trek. We discuss who our favourite captains are, which are the best episodes, and most importantly, what we’d do on a holodeck.

Comments

But also LOVED everything about this conversation, especially the mentions of Galaxy Quest and Babylon 5!

Rebecca Dupont

To be THAT Trek fan, but technically the Sisco back in time comic book writer episode was not a Holodeck episode but kind of a dream/hallucination

Rebecca Dupont

Voyage Home was audacious fun from first to last. ("Too much LDS in college". The search for "nuclear wessles" during the cold war. The barbarism of kidney dialysis and, well, "computer?" uttered into a computer mouse while preparing to release transpatent aluminum into the 20th century.)

Melissa Raney

I have absolutely lost my mind over "cetaceous core"

Melissa Raney

holyheckmuffins ! That was so fun to listen to! I'm just a casual ST person, and haven't watched anything relating to it for the past 20 years, but oooo the memories y'all brought back were great!!

Claire Voss

Definitely need to bundle up Helen in a cozy blanket, a bucket of popcorn, and The Voyage Home.

The thing about Star Trek IV is that, as ridiculous as it sounds, and as humorous as it is, it is also a very sincere film, with a lot of heart. You need to watch it.

Elizabeth Pemberton

1. PLEASE do a Bab5 episode. I am 1701% here for that. 2. You mentioned the Starfleet Corps of Engineers - there's a whole series of books about them! They were ebook novellas that have been compiled into longer book form and they are AMAZING. Geordi's even in the first one doing a short stint with the S.C.E.

Ollie of the Beholder

Yes!! Love for Benjamin Sisko!

You are right about The Voyage Home and you should say it.
