In which we all hold our breath while we wait to discover who is the greatest chef in Rusty Towers.

PETS OF RUSTY TOWERS, Episode 5

Part 1

In the first panel, a light brown grey rabbit with a bright red cap stands before two wooden counters. The wall on the left half of the panel is a light grey-teal and the wall on the right half of the panel is a darker teal.

On top of the left counter is a blue stand mixer and two brown containers. Sitting by the mixer and containers are two animals in white chef’s hats; one, a camel, and behind the camel is a round hedgehog.

On top of the right counter are three bowls (the biggest and smallest are a pink-purple, the middle blue) nested within one another and a blue container with four wooden sticks coming out of it. By the sticks stands a green t-rex with dark green patches and a white chef’s hat.

The rabbit has one paw out, the other resting on his belly, and he has a darker brown-grey mustache. He is saying “Welcome to my cooking stream! Today we have a friendly competition. Derek and Chonko claim to be the best chefs in Rusty Towers, but Dente disagrees and wants to challenge them for that title. Let’s hear the desserts they’ll be baking!”

Below the image, an arrow indicates that the rabbit is “Twitch, Tai’s rabbit.”

In the second panel, the left counter is centered upon the panel. The background is a light grey-teal Upon it we see the blue stand mixer with a silver bowl and two brown containers on the right half of the counter. On the left, we can now see that there are three nested bowls identical to the bowls seen in panel 1 upon the right counter, as well as a blue container with wooden handles sticking out.

The hedgehog and camel stand upon the counter, facing the viewers. Outside of the panel, an arrow indicates that the characters are “Chonko and Derek, Mike’s Comfort Crew cuddly toys.” Chonko has a white face with a tan nose, ears and paws. His fluffy fur is a light brown-grey. Derek has sandy fur with a curly jumble of reddish brown hair on top of his head and hump. Derek also has a green patch on his side with a black heart in the center.

Derek and Chonko say “We will be baking our famous Blackberry Mascarpone Tart with homemade shortbread crust.”

In the third panel, the other counter is centered. The background is teal. This counter has an identical setup to the previous counter, with a blue stand mixer, three bowls, two brown containers and a blue container with wooden handles sticking out of the top.

Text underneath the panel identifies the green t-rex as “Dente, Cathy’s cuddly toy.” Dente is green with a white belly and pink tongue. He’s got darker green patches on his legs and back. He is facing the audience in this panel.

Dente is saying “I will be baking an Apple Marzipan Tart with scratch Puff Pastry crust and caramelized pecans.”

Part 2

Panel 1 is zoomed out more, showing the two counters with baking utensils on top as well as the grey-white tiled floor. The grey hexagonal tiles are stacked one on top of the other with white diamonds between the columns. The wall on the left half of the panel is grey-teal, the wall on the right half is teal.

Twitch sits upon the tiles on the right side of the panel, right paw raised. Twitch is saying “You have two hours - good luck, everyone!”

Upon the countertops, Chonko, Derek and Dente rush into action. Chonko is reaching for the bowls, Derek for the brown containers. On the other counter Dente is reaching for the wooden utensils. Dente’s eye is in a spiral shape. Above the characters, thick black lettering reads “RUSH RUSH RUSH”. On the right wall a little spider hangs on a black strand.

Panel 2 is a close-up on Chonko and Derek’s counter from the other side. On this side of the counter we can see that there is an oven built into it with a stovetop. There are also drawers with silver handles. The oven is set to 300 degrees Celsius and one of the four burners is on high.

Derek is dropping blackberries into a pan on the lit burner. Chonko is stirring a white mixture in the large purple bowl with a brown spoon, one paw perched on the edge of the bowl. Chonko is saying “Pass the sugar, please.” To which Derek responds “One moment!” and Chonko adds “And the flour!”.

Panel 3 is a close-up on Dente standing upon the countertop with the medium blue bowl, stirring a light mixture. From the top of the panel we can see white specks falling into the bowl. Thick block lettering around Dente reads “STiR STiR STiR”.

Part 3

Panel 1 is split vertically in the middle. At the top of the panel is a black box with white lettering that reads “Some Time Later…” In the left half of panel 1, Twitch is trying the blackberry mascarpone tart while Chonko and Derek peer in from the right and left, looking sad. Twitch has a fork full of purple tart raised to his mustache.

The tart is in a silver pie pan and has blackened blackberries around the edge of the dough. The light purple topping is heavily singed, turning black toward the top, and the dough and fruit look burnt as well.

Twitch says, “Great presentation but… It’s quite charred.”

The right panel features Twitch trying Dente’s tart. The tart is in a silver pie tin, thin slices of apples layered side by side. Twitch has a fork full of apple and crust raised to his mustache. Twitch says, “Lovely puff pastry, but… oh my goodness, it really is rather salty!” All the way to the right, Dente watches Twitch judge the tart, little t-rex arms raised to his mouth in horror.

Panel 2 is split horizontally through the middle. The top half has a light pink background, the bottom half has a darker pink background. On the top half, Twitch notices a third entry to the cooking competition. Twitch stands to the left, looking towards the right, with three thick exclamations beside his head. On the right, a small black spider in a tiny white chef’s hat pushes a silver plate with a carrot cake on it toward Twitch. The carrot cake is brown with orange specks and a carrot on top nestled in light orange cream frosting. A silver fork sticks out of the top.

In the bottom half, Twitch is trying the carrot cake. One paw holds the fork with carrot cake on it near his mustache, his other paw is raised excitedly. Twitch has a pleasant pink blush and golden stars and excitement lines around him. He says, “Delicious! The contestant who presented the carrot cake is today’s paws-down winner! Who is our winner?”

Panel 3 has a grey background. This time, we are close up on the character identified as the “Little Spider”. The Little Spider is dark grey with eight legs, two of which are raised triumphantly with tiny balled fists on the end. The Little Spider has six closed eyes and two little white fangs sticking out of a smiling mouth. They have six blushes, one under the corner of each eye. They are wearing a chef’s hat. Around them red, yellow, pink and orange confetti showers down.

From the top left of the panel, there is an unassigned speech bubble that says “Errrrrm… who is the winner?”
