To start us off today, we have an exciting announcement: a brand-new show has joined the RQ Network! Introducing: Dice Shame. We previously released new members of the RQ Network in waves; now we have an amazing selection of podcasts, we are now announcing new members individually. This will allow us to add new shows more often, bringing you even more amazing podcasts to enjoy, more regularly. Keep an eye on our socials, and this newsletter, for future announcements. Dice Shame is a fantasy comedy actual play podcast and loose play through of Wizards of The Coast’s Storm King’s Thunder D&D campaign. Dice Shame focuses on intense and heartfelt character moments, player and NPC growth, and a great balance of meta-comedy and in-character laughter and love. Expect all the shocks, the twists, the turns and the moments where you just had to be there of your best game of D&D.
The team behind Dice Shame pride themselves on high-quality audio, tight fast-paced editing, enhanced sound effects to bring scenes to life and the meaningful music that accompanies all of that. Furthermore, the Dice Shame group emulate the real-life friendships they have and bring that, not only to the table, but to the ears of their audience. Alongside these warm and positive vibes listeners can also expect more than a few low-rolling dice getting the shame they deserve.
Join DM Jo, her husband Harlan, their brother Alex Guthrie & their best friends Rob and Alex Nursall as they experience unmissable, gut-wrenching, heart-aching, joy-filled moments.
Brand new episodes every Thursday. You can listen to Dice Shame wherever you find podcasts, or on the Rusty Quill website.
You may recognise Jo Guthrie and Harlan Guthrie as some of the names behind the spine-chilling audiodrama podcast, Malevolant. We were lucky enough to speak to them to find out more about them and how they collaborate for Dice Shame.
1. Tell us who you are and a bit about Dice Shame
Hey there! We are Jo and Harlan Guthrie, the producers, cast and creators of Dice Shame, a 5th Edition D&D podcast! As Canadian streamers, we cut our roleplaying teeth running RPGs on our YouTube channel The INVICTUS Stream every Wednesday for the past 7 years and have loved every second of it. That groundwork laid the track for what Dice Shame is and has become, a show about being at the table with your friends.
Dice Shame is a show made from many years of improv, writing and acting. It's a comedy Actual Play that focuses on intense and heartfelt character moments, player and NPC growth, and a great balance of meta comedy alongside in character laughter and love. To us, roleplaying is all about the story and the characters; Dice Shame allowed us to build upon a well-known formula in a way we think you're going to be jazzed to hear.
2. What got you into podcasting?
Three years ago, we drove down from Toronto to Indianapolis to attend GenCon with our friends Rob and Justin. After a long chat about what we wanted to see more of and what we wanted to make; Justin, Jo & Harlan decided to start Dice Shame with the principals of high-quality audio, tight fast-paced editing, enhanced SFX to bring scenes to life and meaningful music to accompany it. Moreover, we wanted to emulate the real-life friendships we had and bring that, not only to the table, but to the ears of the listeners.
3. What are you most proud about Dice Shame?
Imagine your best game of D&D.
The shocks, the twists, the turns, the moments that can't be caught because you just had to be there. This is Dice Shame. With the ability to tell a longform story, with people who not only have a genuine love for the game - but love for each other, we've managed to bring the feel of being around the table to you. It's why we were featured on Wizards of the Coast's website for their Rime of the Frostmaiden special and its why we've joined the Rusty Quill Network, to bring more of those unmissable, gut-wrenching, heart-aching, joy-filled moments to you.
So grab a snack, pull up a chair and join us at the table. Your friends are here.

I won't be able to listen to anything until Sunday evening but... honestly? SO EXCITED also, the question is not "Will they survive" but "how Will they survive"

2022-08-22 19:07:25 +0000 UTCGreat stuff this week! I thought we were getting a new episode of CFA, though. On the page for CFA11, it says that Hartro will be appreciating The Matrix on the 26th. Has that changed?

2022-08-22 15:54:16 +0000 UTCwelcome to the Guthries and friends, sounds wonderful (a huge proportion of my social circle is currently losing their minds over Malevolent), and the SEAS BD sounds like it's gonna be super interesting, but i'm a bit busy biting my nails and screaming internally in anticipation of the last Masks. WHAT DO YOU MEAN "WILL THEY SURVIVE" AAAAAAAAAAAAA
