Tiny Terrors

Hi folks,

Wishing you the very best for the coming week from everyone at Rusty Towers!

Today, we are delighted to introduce you to a new member of the RQ Network! Tiny Terrors is a nostalgic, found-footage, fourth-wall breaking horror anthology written and created by Cole Weavers, the award-winning creator that bought you The Town Whispers. Tiny Terrors is an exploration of pre-internet message boards and the recordings made by members of the “Tiny Terrors Scary Story Exchange”. Long-time fans of The Town Whispers and Rusty Quill will recognise a familiar voice actor among the cast: Mike LeBeau.

Tiny Terrors launches today, and the trailer and first six episodes are available to listen to now, wherever you find your podcasts. We spoke to Cole about how Tiny Terrors came to be and his inspiration for the show.

Tell us who you are and a bit about Tiny Terrors

My name is Cole Weavers. I am an award-winning podcaster and writer from Vancouver, Canada, and creator of The Town Whispers, and now I'm super excited to share with everyone, Tiny Terrors. Tiny Terrors is my personal love story to the anthology horror shows of the 90s like Goosebumps, and Are you Afraid of the Dark, that largely defined my childhood.

What got you into podcasting?

I originally started podcasting after a particularly terrible shift at work. It was one of those moments where you say, if not now then when. I didn't have much in the way of plans or future ambitions and was mostly floating from idea to idea finding where my skills and interests aligned. Then I came across audio drama podcasts, and it seemed ridiculous that I hadn't assumed folks had continued the tradition of radio plays through podcasts. I can't begin to tell you the amount of times I've failed, and the amount of thing I've discovered I'm terrible at, but podcasting, audio fiction, and writing has given me a respite from those terrible shifts, and I hope that what I create does the same for others.

What are you most proud about Tiny Terrors?

I think I'm most proud of how much of the story has come together with little to no effort - the story has largely just fallen into my lap out of the "podcasting nether". I credit part of that to the collection of voices and the wonderful people behind them that make writing for them so easy. Each member of our cast is an established voice actor or member of the Indie Audio Drama community that brought with them, not only a ton of professionalism, and expertise, but wonderful attitudes, that came through in spades during our recording sessions, and concepting the meta-narrative. Not only do we play friends in the podcast, but we've become real life friends in the process, and that itself is worth the effort and price of admission for me, personally.

Listen to Tiny Terrors wherever you find podcasts or on the Rusty Quill website.

In another RQ Network update, we’re so excited to hear that How It Ends Season 3 is finally on its way, releasing on 6th October! If you’ve listened before, and want a refresher on what happened, they’ve released a supercut of key moments from the first two seasons. If you haven’t listened yet, now is the perfect time to catch up. How It Ends deals with friendship, love, loss, grief and memories, exploring Micah’s strange dreams and tangled remembrances. Listen to How It Ends wherever you find podcasts, on the Rusty Quill website or on the How It Ends website.

Meanwhile on Trice Forgotten this week, we have another fascinating episode of Below Decks. Join creator Nemo, director Rafaella and Jonathan Ablett, a curator at the Natural History Museum in London who specialises in molluscs. As well as providing fascinating insights into what goes on behind the scenes at a large scientific collection, they’ll be discussing ethical research and colonial critique.

After this episode, we’ll be taking a short break on the Trice Forgotten feed. Episode six will release in the usual slot on Patreon on Monday 3rd October, and publicly on Tuesday 4th October.

However to tide you over, we will be hosting a small Trice Forgotten themed "games night" on Gather on Wednesday 28th September featuring creator Nemo Martin and other members of the SEAS cast and crew. We'll be sharing more details soon, so keep an eye out.

Here is our full schedule for this week:

Monday 19th September

SEAS Below Decks 3 – Ethical Research and Colonial Critique (Patreon) (4pm BST)

Tuesday 20th September
