Dreams and memories
Added 2022-10-03 15:00:08 +0000 UTCHi folks,
October is here and we’re fully into the ghostliest of seasons. Here in the UK the autumn has already arrived, and we’re settling down in the long evenings to enjoy some of our favourite “cosy” horror podcasts. What shows do you like to listen to (or relisten to) at this time of year?
If you’d rather listen to something new, you’re in luck, as How It Ends season 3 finally launches on Thursday! We’ve been eagerly awaiting this new season and can’t wait to dive back into Micah’s search for answers around the death of her father. If you haven’t yet checked out this podcast, it’s a perfect one for hallowe’en month, featuring friendships, tarot readings, games of DnD, and a dream that might not actually be a dream at all…
We spoke to the creators behind How It Ends, Micah Rodriguez and Stephanie Resendes, to find out some more about this upcoming series!
Tell us a bit about the show, for anyone who hasn't listened yet.
Our show is for folks who have a deep love of mysteries and spooky stories, but also want to feel a connection with characters. How it Ends follows Micah Jones, along with her two best friends Elia and Devon, as she tries to find help for her nightmares—one in particular has haunted her since her dad's death in 1993.
Grief is complicated, we all know that, but what happens when dreams and memories blur together? And when new information about your dad comes from an unexpected source?
How would you react? What would you do? As for Micah... she is starting to realize that sometimes dreams aren’t dreams at all—they’re memories.
What are you excited about for Season 3?
We've been on hiatus since Season 2 ended in February of 2020, so we've gone all out with Season 3. Listeners have been waiting so long for the story to continue that we wanted to really reward them for their patience. Season 3 has more episodes, longer episodes, new characters, and a lot of answers to questions from Seasons 1 and 2. It's going to be a lot more fast-paced than our other seasons (though it still is, and always will be, a slow-burn show).
Micah: I'm a big fan of sneaky callbacks and easter eggs in media. Pay close attention, you might just stumble on to something interesting. I think I'm most proud of that.
Stephanie: We never intended to have this big of a gap between seasons. I'm really proud of how we adjusted the story to explain the time gap in-story while still maintaining our original vision.
Tell us a fact about the main characters that we might not know just from listening to the show?
We actually know a lot about our characters! Before even diving into the story we spent months "getting to know them" and have 6+ page dossiers on them. A few things people would probably be interested in the main characters are:
- Micah takes after Nolan in the sense that she's a bit of a renaissance woman. Listeners know that she loves the outdoors, but they might not know that she can play a couple of instruments, is an artist, and also sings. Micah is a Sagittarius, she cannot live without the sweet anxiety relief that is The Great British Bake Off and she'd choose french fries over any other meal.
- Elia is a Swiss army knife personified. She can work on cars, cook up a four-course meal without breaking a sweat, do light carpentry work... but she can't pack light. Elia is an Aries, a purple person, supports Benfica, and takes her gin & seltzers with extra lime.
- Devon gets his love of art from his mom, a former art history professor, and his ability to figure anything out from his dad, an engineer. His uncles call him "Dev" and "Devon the Dude", both inspired by Odd Squad member Devin the Dude, who also appeared on De La Soul's "Baby Phat" on their 2002 release AOI: Bionix. Devon is an Aquarius, is a full-on cat guy, and listens to so much music he's basically a walking encyclopedia.
- Aimee is type-A all the way. As a former high school and college multi-sport athlete, med student, and now doctor, those traits have served her well. She can do it all. She's not a control freak though--she knows when to let someone else take the reins... as long as she still has a say. She's a Gemini, a forever Penn State Nittany lion, and loves reading and watching trash reality TV in her downtime.
