SEAS 7 - Shore Leave

I think this is my favorite episode to date. Baker and Gabe are just 🥰🥲🥹

Hilarious snaps and retorts asides (I love Inez. I love her bluntness, his way to put people in front of their own’s contradictions or bastardy behaviours, but also how fair he can be in his own way), that episode broke my heart into tiny pieces. Siva’s anguish about Noor, clearly understanding that there is occasionally a wall between them, and wanting to get closer to them but… relationships often being complicated. … which worked so well with the theme of this episode through Gabe&Baker’s own romance, about people being complex and sometimes having contradictory wishes/needs ;_; (“People are complicated, Siva. We need things that don’t always make sense.”) I loved so many things about Baker opening up about his story: his little hesitation before saying the word “husband” (because then he would go on telling the whole story); the contrast between the silent child Baker brought and the lively Alestes we hear after a few years of living in her family and in this community (with her own opinions, her likes and distastes, but also obvious respect and love for Baker&Gabe); Gabe’s understanding of human nature, noticing Alestes and Baker’s cravings for adventures and finding a middle ground for his relationship to survive this… There was a delicious use of silence in that scene (without any musical background) which, by contrast, really made me feel the preciousness and fragility of that moment. And I love that Baker dutifully writes these letters now!! He’s patient, he notices people’s troubles, but he also has his own life and his little private bubble, and it’s so lovely and his relationship with Gabe is so poetic ;w; And in comparison, ooooh does the Alestes&Gammon relationship hurt… the way Alestes is wary of him but also still craving his validation, and the way he clearly fostered those feelings and is playing and abusing them (“I knew it was real! I knew that old goat would never lie to me!” had me in TEARS) is downright awful, and I’m loving it <3

Well Barker and Gabe just tore out my heart. It’s fine. I didn’t need it anyway. Excited to learn more about Gammon 👀👀👀 Inez doesn’t seem to be a fan. Rip to those turtles, I guess.

Kissing noises? In a Rusty Quill podcast? What did Nemo have to do convince Alex to allow this?

My heart hurts, I have so many emotions mostly oh no, Baker... and OH, ALESTES, NO!

I just wanted to say that, aparte from the show, I LOVE your review and fully agree (couldn't express It so clearoy in a millón years though XD)

MarlaBothBothIsGood

Just caught up on episode 6, had an absolute thrill with the new character, and now this episode gave me all the feels. Gosh, this show continues to be so strong in all possible ways. It's cool, it's fun, it's intense, it's heartwrenching, it's clever... the writing for the plot, the dialogue, and the performances and audio work... the opening theme now makes something yearn in me as I recognise the carp song, the flashbacks are always induce a gasp, the characters and their dynamics are so fun and interesting all in their own ways, and Alestes's emotional journey in this ep absolutely obliterated me. ALSO I had JUST realised 3 hours prior to this ep's release that Nemo had recently hinted to the appearance of the character that shows up in this ep, so i perked up like a puppy hearing the W word when he was mentioned in so much excitement. That was so lovely, that kind of relationship is my JAM and i adore him and those scenes and that relationship and that family. Shout-outs also to "Allah give me strength" Noor, Siva's woes with communication as established by neurotypicals, and Inez's immaculate angry energy in this ep (and the fact that he still did dig).
