Bunkers, broadcasts and barlines

Hi folks,

Wishing you the very best for the coming week from everyone at Rusty Towers!

Firstly, we’re delighted to announce a brand-new show joining RQ Network. Wake of Corrosion is a UK-based audio drama set in a nightmare filled, apocalyptic world. An unknown horror grips the country, forcing survivors into bunkers and shelters. Professor Ryan sends out radio broadcasts from his bunker, looking for fellow survivors and sharing the story of two brothers, Elliot and Roman. Prior to the change, the two had set out on an “off grid” holiday. They looked forward to spending time away from screens, and the tribulations of modern life. They could not have foreseen the way the world changed when they returned…

You can listen to Wake of Corrosion wherever you find podcasts, or on the Rusty Quill website.

We spoke to Shaun Pellington, the creator of Wake of Corrosion, to find out more about the show.

Tell us who you are and a bit about Wake of Corrosion?
My name is Shaun Pellington and I’m the creator of Wake Of Corrosion. As well as this, I'm an English teacher, outdoor enthusiast and aerial silks performer. If I’m not wandering through a forest or chilling on a paddleboard, you can find me poring over audio drama content. Wake Of Corrosion is my debut show. It’s a UK based apocalyptic horror story that follows two brothers who head out on an off-grid camping trip only to discover the world outside the forest is not at all as they left it. As a listener, you’ll join the last few survivors who tune into the broadcast from Professor Ryan as he endeavours to find answers in the wreckage of our ruined world, through their story and beyond.

What got you into podcasting?
I’ve always loved stories of any variety, but when spoken words can bring a whole world to life it’s magical. I first got into audio dramas a couple of years ago when a friend of mine suggested an audio drama to me after talking about my interest in the unusual and eldritch. A year or so later and I’m deep in conversation with my brother (who plays my character’s brother in Wake) about whether I could make my own show. After a few months of running through hundreds of ideas and teaching myself how to edit audio, I’ve got the first season underway and Wake of Corrosion is born.

What are you most proud about Wake of Corrosion?
As I mentioned before, creating a believable scene without any visual prompts is enchanting. The thing I’m most proud of with Wake of Corrosion is and always will be its ability to draw the listeners into this fictional reimagining of our world. In creating the show, these are the moments when I’m editing a scene and it stops feeling like me just listening to voice lines and sound effects, to listening to a very real moment play out. When the creature's call makes me shudder. When a section of dialogue makes me truly feel for the character's plight. That's what I'm most proud of.

Next up, a quick apology. Due to unforeseen delays, we weren't able to share the planned RQ Original Wallpapers on Friday. We’ve adjusted our planned schedule, and they will now be shared this Friday.

We’re continuing to prepare for our Kickstarter campaign, and are currently finalising the written portion, checking for typos, creating images, and working on a campaign video. We will continue to keep you updated as we get ready to launch the full campaign.

Finally, a quick reminder that this week on Trice Forgotten, we have another episode of Below Decks, due to some technical issues requiring a re-record. This week director Rafaella Marcus and writer and creator Nemo Martin are joined by composer Samuel DF Jones (otherwise known as Sam Sam the Music Man) to discuss the incredible Trice Forgotten soundtrack. If you love the music, you can now listen to the full album of character suites on Spotify, along with some other Rusty Quill favourites.

Here is our full schedule for this week:

Monday 14th November

SEAS Below Decks – Making the Music (Patreon) (4pm GMT)

Tuesday 15th November

SEAS Below Decks – Making the Music (Public) (4pm GMT)

Friday 18th November

CITIZENS+ - Rusty Quill Original Wallpapers (Patreon) (4pm GMT)

Have a good week all!

Hi Rusty Quill, the Magnus Feed just informed me that Amazon Music is supporting RQ and TMA2. Could you please give us some details about this partnership? I'd love to understand how this partnership aligns with your company values. I'm sure many would argue that Amazon isn't exactly a beacon of inclusivity or integrity. And how will you be able to guarantee Independence, when partnering with such a powerful entity? This isn't exactly the first questionable/controversial partnership announced by RQ...

Fingers crossed that the Kickstarter won't be launching around Christmas - I'm probably not the only one around who's got nothing to spare for the end of the year, but I'm sure you all know that already!

Any information about the Magnus Archives 2?

I super love the music of Trice Forgotten and am excited to hear more about it!

Surprise Shaun and music episodes, this is a good week...

Mēs esam flinči, šī ir mūsu dziesma, mēs kādu laiku ceļosim laikā

Always lovely to hear from Sam about Music! I really enjoyed the deep dive into the INEX suits. But are there any updates about the RQG dice? They were supposed to be ready for shipping in autumn. We’re now halfway through November and there haven’t been any updates for ages. This was quite a lot of money to pay for a preorder, only to not be kept up to date.

I got to work with Shaun during Phonic Fiction Fest and he is wonderful! Congrats WoC!
