Wow this was a delight! I’m finally catching up and just so floored at how amazing this show is. It has everything we could ever want. I’ve learned so much from the below decks series, and I’ve grown so attached to these characters. I want to give Siva a hug! Thank you for making such an incredible masterpiece. I’m eagerly awaiting what comes next, really hoping for a second season! ❤️❤️❤️

2023-01-19 18:16:57 +0000 UTCAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, it was an extra-long episode, but it went so fast!! 😭 “Explosives”, “assassinations” and “lock picking” are Inez’s gender(s), duly noted! I laughed so hard about what she did with the turtles – extremely satisfying to hear :D I loved their display of talents and the mix of ruthlessness, defiance, strategy and vulnerability we got to witness. I adored the contrast in the last “You’ve got this”: from sarcasm to… an attempt at self-reassurance, much more intimate that what he liked to pretend. In a way, it really feels to me like Alestes and Inez aren’t so different in many regards, which might be why they end up arguing so often? Noor absolutely broke my heart when they understood what might have happened to their bracelets… nooooooo!!! Alestes didn’t!!! Really sad that their faith in her was (seemingly) disproven by the others’ assumptions, although Noor might have been right… I hope they get to talk with Alestes… (Also, their concern for Siva during this episode… aaaah, my small heart…) I’m so fascinated by what we’ve seen of Gammon & Baker’s different influences regarding Alestes!! Baker had mentioned how he had been afraid for her and who she was turning into alongside Gammon, but I wasn’t expecting Gammon to have noticed Baker’s positive influence on her (since Baker wasn’t the one he wanted Alestes to kill). Loved Baker’s pride and stoicism even when faced with Gammon’s cruelty (toying with him and dragging out the threat of an execution, and trying to rub Alestes’s “decision” in), his compassion when he tried to make Inez realise what they had done with the guard (I wonder how she might grow around him!) and his much firmer side when time came to take the lead back on the ship. Mary and Gammon were both terrifying and hilarious in their own terrible ways (loved the violence in the sound of putting the teacup on the table, it was so uncaring and mean :D), they made me wince multiple times, and I can’t decide if I prefer Mary dead or coming back with a revenge (and/or a girlfriend) in the future. Oh, Gammon, you really had it coming. Anh… Oh, Anh… Oh sweetie… Most of her scenes were spent shouting “Gay?!” over anything she said and did. Even with the brothel scene before, I somehow hadn’t been expecting her to have it so bad. (And for all the others’ assumptions about Alestes having a heart of steel… it would have been way much quicker for Alestes to simply kill her, and she had multiple occasions to do so. But no: as Alestes pointed out, she indeed had tried to protect Anh! ;w;) Really glad that Anh got to [REDACTED] with Gammon, it was deserved and a deliberate move and felt soooo satisfying! Overall, I greatly enjoyed the nexus forming around Alestes, between Baker&Gammon&Anh all wishing for (and for some of them, expecting) different things from her, while everyone (except Baker) kept misunderstanding her. … somehow, I missed that information and it took me the last scene to understand what the song (and the singer) meant re:Alestes. So that’s why she desperately wanted these plates, and why she was so defensive of Zhu Anran loving his family… ;_; (Alestes!! She’s been shown loved by so many parents, but it feels like she’s also not allowing herself to fully accept this love in a way…?) She kept caring aggressively while claiming the contrary (protecting Siva too!!), and I can’t believe she had reproached Baker for taking in new people in earlier episodes - *she* went ride or die for them in the end, too… I’m really curious about her illness, and excited that other characters have been noticing that something has been amiss too. And Siva!! I was so sad for him and his guilt, and still heartbroken but also so happy when he lashed out about people deciding for and having their own misconceptions about him ;_; This is truly were Below Decks came in handy, because was absolutely unaware of the role of “the boy” in Western “exploring” expeditions (it’s a field I knew nothing about), and that really echoed in my mind when Siva shined through and reminded everyone, Gammon&Mary and Alestes (and Nani, in a way) that he was his own person, with his own feelings. He was easy to overlook because of his lack of a filter, but he had shown time and time again that he has keen eyes and his own feelings over matters. (I also cackled so hard at “You gave him bombs?!”. Yes!!!) Loved the bookends effect (the two last sequences vs. the first episode… the memories and going to see That Person for Alestes again…) and the sensation that… if all these people hadn’t joined the ship, and if Alestes hadn’t begrudgingly (at least on the surface) accepted them aboard, she would be dying right now: from Baker giving orders per interim and managing to get the best out of the others, both through his position and through the connection he had managed to create with them, to Siva’s talents with cartography, Inez’s knowledge of anatomy, and Noor’s strength (both physical, and their ability to keep a clear mind and to understand others without judging), they wouldn’t have managed to survive these last hurdles if any had been missing. I really loved this series, and I’m really hoping that we will get more!

2022-12-11 23:38:33 +0000 UTCFinally managed to sit down with my co-listener for this final episode, and enjoyed it so much. Everyone's performances are amazing, I'm amazed that even in the last episode there were still many revelations and twists -- despite knowing some spoilers, I absolutely did not foresee the way the final resolution would go -- and big moments of character development (building on all the foundation and growth of previous episodes)... so, so many delicious dynamics between all the characters, just being born or coming to light or getting twisted or changing... I want to give special shout-outs to the dynamics/interactions/conversations, but honestly all of them... okay, I'm especially soft at Noor (Gigi's VOICE ACTING on that "Of course we did!"), enamoured with Inez's constant back and forth between hilarious and snarky and truly harsh and dangerous and vulnerable soft hurt darling, endlessly entertained by Anh and Mary and by all the revelations about Gammon's personality especially re: Baker and Alestes, completely in love with Baker and with Alestes myself, and **so proud** of Siva. Amazing journey in this episode, that initial monologue, that big rant... chef kiss at the writing, the acting, and the performance bouncing off other actors... I'm so proud of him and love that bit with him and Alestes so much. My last relisten was a "having Alestes feelings", but the next one will definitely be a "having Siva feelings" one. Also, THE PLOT... all the loose ends beautifully coming together and the dramatic irony and the metatext (that quick argument about peaceful vs direct action) and THE SYMBOLISM... those book ends... I was already emotionally devasted over the gorgeousness of the, uh, improvised defense & weapon thing, and then my jaw dropped at that last voice. What a beautiful ending, bittersweet and open yet so satisfyingly wrapped up... (though I am of course crossing all my fingers and toes in hope for more seasons!!!) and so many memes. don't think i didn't notice the memes. i cannot believe how you managed to put memes in high stakes scenes and pull it off without breaking the dramatic tension, and then do it AGAIN AND AGAIN Congratulations everyone involved in this show on a fantastic job, and thank you so much. It's been a gorgeous joy, full of heart, and my heart is so full too.

2022-12-06 11:12:21 +0000 UTCThe bit between Alestes and anh’s first scene and the trio sneaking to rescue siva sent shivers down my spine.

2022-12-06 10:55:41 +0000 UTCI've relistened to it twice since yesterday and I can't get over how good the voice acting is, everyone did such a great job and the music was incredibly well done. I loved every second of it and had goosebumps all over, even while relistening. The lore, the acting, the music, the everything. It was JUST SO GOOD, I really hope you guys can continue making this show!

2022-12-06 09:48:04 +0000 UTCThe music is particularly beautiful in this one. It compliments the writing in the parts where Alestes and Anh are duelling perfectly.

2022-12-06 00:19:44 +0000 UTCJEEZ, PULLING OUT ALL THE STOPS!!! I can see why production had to work extra hard on this one! So much happening! What a labor of love, thank you to everyone who was involved<3 I can’t think of a better wrap to the season… Feels like I got everything I wanted and even some things I didn’t think were likely to come to pass (MY SHIP! and Siva goes OFF!!!!!) All of the voice talent, too — whew! Acting your tails off! Packed a HUGE emotional punch, and I didn’t think it could get better than the last episode. Also huge shoutout to Nemo, omg, I’m thinking about trying to write such a tense scene with this many characters actively involved and I just want to cry. That’s really tricky, but they did it SO elegantly. I don’t feel like I have adequate words… this was such a gd joy to listen to. I know it’s not a guarantee but Trice S2 is definitely on the top of my Christmas list for next year. I’m dying to know more about Alestes and to see the crew get to finally come together properly. (Fingers crossed for that shanty Nemo wanted!) And Below Decks, too, I would love to see that continue if you guys are up for it :) Hopefully everyone gets a nice rest over the holiday and comes back feeling refreshed in the new year. If Trice is setting the new standard, then Cry Havoc is going to be amazing, I can’t wait to hear what you guys are cooking up.

I am absolutely blown away. And the *writing*, oh my god NEMO YOU MASTER. I'm not going to go into detail, as I don't want to spoil anyone, but WOW. just WOW.
