Hi folks,

Thank you so much to everyone who listened to the first episode in our inaugural Neon Inkwell series, Of That Colossal Wreck, written by Sasha Sienna and Jonathan Sims. Neon Inkwell is an incredibly special podcast, allowing us to showcase some familiar names to Rusty Quill fans and new and underrepresented creators from around the world. We’ll be introducing you to some of these creators as we release more of our short series in the future, but today we thought we’d introduce you to someone else very important in the creation of Neon Inkwell: showrunner Elizabeth Moffatt. You may already be familiar with Elizabeth’s work with Rusty Quill, as she was a sound designer on The Magnus Archives. She was kind enough to sit down and answer a few questions for us in this Patreon-exclusive interview.

Tell us who you are and a bit about your show

I’m Elizabeth (she/her), and I was born and raised in New Zealand so have the exact accent that no one is looking for in the voice acting world. Good thing the acting side doesn’t interest me! I’ve been involved in podcasting since 2016, and before that had trained and worked in television as well as in the corporate world as a writer.

Neon Inkwellis an anthology feed for anything that sits around the 3 to 8 episode series length. When we planned the feed, we decided to do a range of genres with the core feature being that shows would always be full-cast. We also decided to produce not just USA and UK productions, but some antipodean ones as well; there’s plenty of stories to tell down south and I’m hoping listeners will find the change of location refreshing!

How did you get into podcasting?

I got into podcasting by answering one of the job advertisements that Alex included on the TMA feed around the 50-episode mark. I had experience with video editing, and figured audio editing would basically be the same thing. IT IS NOT. But I endeavoured and have had a lot of workplace training with Alex and a few others over the years. After the end of TMA there were a few options of things I could move on to do and Neon Inkwell was the one that I was most interested in.

What are you most proud about your show?

We have some astonishingly good writers working on shows, and I’m particularly impressed by J. Evelyn Gaskell, The Pit Below Paradise, as they are a relatively young but came to us with really strong scripts with characters you just want to follow along. I’m looking forward to how Welcome To Fosters is received as I think it has a really novel setting. But most of all, I am really proud that our casts and characters across the shows will feature people that are often just not currently included in fiction podcasting.

The second episode of Of That Colossal Wreck releases on Friday at 4pm GMT on the Neon Inkwell podcast feed, or to Knights and Nobles get early access on Wednesday! In this week’s episode, our small crew of survivors continue to explore the space station, but it seems as if someone – or something – was there first.
