Wrap up
Added 2023-01-30 16:00:06 +0000 UTCHi folks,
We hope that you’ve all had a wonderful week!
Here at Rusty Towers, we’re in full-on planning mode for the coming year. As well as the upcoming release of Cry Havoc! Ask Questions Later and The Magnus Protocol, we’ve started to plan out some of our events and livestreams for 2023. While there’s not much we can reveal at the moment, Rusty Nobles a date for your diaries is our official Trice Forgotten wrap party on 17th February. Join creator and lead writer, Nemo Martin, director and writer Rafaella Marcus, and members of the cast to celebrate the first season of our nautical show. We’ll be sharing more information very soon, so keep an eye out.
Meanwhile in news from the Rusty Quill Network, we’re very excited that a brand-new audio drama is being released on the Tin Can Audio Presents podcast feed! Anamnesis is an experimental microfiction podcast by David Devereux, creator of The Tower, The Middle:Below, The Dungeon Economic Model and more. To celebrate the release, David Devereux will be hosting a stream over on their Twitch channel at 8pm GMT (3pm Eastern). If you have a Twitch account, make sure you’re following Tin Can Audio so that you get a notification as soon as they go live!
To continue our Patreon-exclusive series of interviews with podcast creators, we spoke to David Devereux about their latest production:
Tell us who you are and a bit about Anamnesis?
Hello! I'm a non-binary writer/sound designer/audio producer and musician (I wear many hats) based in Glasgow. I started making audio drama podcasts around 2016 and since then I've been very fortunate to make audio editing my full-time job. I primarily make audio drama as Tin Can Audio, through which I've made 'Middle:Below', 'The Tower' and 'The Dungeon Economic Model'.
'Anamnesis' is a 5-episode experimental microfiction audio drama. It is adapted from a playthrough of the solo journalling game 'Anamnesis' by Sam Leigh and was made over the course of 8 weeks entirely live on our Twitch channel. The story is about memory, identity and making mistakes. It takes a lot of inspiration from games such as the Silent Hill series and Hollow Knight.
What got you into podcasting?
As a listener, I came to podcasting through Radio 4. specifically, their comedy shows. When I got my first iPod I realised I could download the shows I loved listening to rather than having to tune in at the right time to catch them. From there I discovered other shows like The Bugle and Welcome To Night Vale.
I initially started making audio drama as a technical exercise. I was working in independent short films in Scotland and I wanted to do more interesting sound design work. I made a little demo, that turned into a full episode, that turned into my first series 'Tin Can' and it just went from there.
What are you most proud about Anamnesis?
First of all, I'm very glad that the idea to make an audio drama from start to finish live on the internet worked so well. I didn't think there would be any kind of audience for that, but it turns out there was! I was very nervous about writing and recording in front of people, but it turned out to be strangely liberating. I usually write on my own and it's a frustrating process but writing on stream meant I had some level of company during the process.
I think I'm very proud of how we managed to involve our listeners so much with this project. Early on I had the idea to ask our Ko-Fi members to send over some recordings of them reading lines to build what I dubbed 'an ethereal choir' that I think is possibly one of the best parts of the series.
As someone who is so used to working mostly on my own, it's been wonderful to make something in this unorthodox way. It's rekindled an enthusiasm for making things for their own sake and reminded me that, while I'm very lucky to have this job, it's important to make space to make things for fun.
Don’t forget, you can join David Devereux over on their Twitch channel today at 8pm GMT.
Finally, this week our Friday bonus content is the return of an old favourite: our puzzles! This week, we’ll introduce you to some of the characters in our upcoming show, Cry Havoc! Ask Questions Later with a themed wordsearch.
Have a good week all!

No chance of a C&M stream, I'm guessing. And TF was a very costly production, so I'm not sure how much more they'll invest in it. But I could listen to Nemo's infodumping for hours.
2023-02-13 06:39:47 +0000 UTCI don't have hope for C&M at this point. Especially if you're thinking about a sequel to the longest campaign.
2023-02-13 06:38:23 +0000 UTCCo-signed! I could listen to Nemo talk about things forever, tbh.

2023-01-30 16:53:33 +0000 UTCDev's streams are very chill, I recommend them.
