Hi folks,

Wishing you the very best for the coming week from everyone at Rusty Towers!

We are still beetling away getting ready for our events this summer (which you can read about in our previous newsletter here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/summer-128762957 ) and the next instalments of Neon Inkwell and The Magnus Protocol.

That said, it has been an incredibly exciting week for some of the creators on the RQ Network!

Firstly, the creators of The Grotto and The Cellar Letters, Athan and Jamie Petronis, are collaborating on a brand-new show that is crowdfunding now: [REDACTED].

[REDACTED] follows Jacob Kane, a failing actor desperate for a fresh start who assumes the identity of his deceased twin, Jordan. What he expects to be a simple accounting job turns out to be something far stranger: a position within THE [REDACTED] UNIT, an underfunded agency tasked with discreetly handling bizarre and often dangerous paranormal cases.

As Jacob settles into his role, he begins to unravel the unsettling truths around his brother’s death. What begins as an act of reinvention slowly becomes a desperate descent into a treacherous web of paranormal forces, secret agendas, and moral compromise.

As well as Athan and Jamie, [REDACTED] will feature the work of Guest Directors from film, gaming, and audio drama – including some familiar names from the RQ Network: Dylan Griggs (WOE.Begone) and Motzie Dapul (Hi Nay), with even more joining the fold thanks to campaign stretch goals that have been reached, including Harlan Guthrie (Malevolent, Dice Shame, Deviser) and Cam Collins (Old Gods of Appalachia). If the campaign reaches $9,000, they’ll additionally unlock KC Wayland (We’re Alive) as a Guest Director!

If you’re intrigued, be sure to check out the video trailer for the show linked above – you may recognise some voices from The Magnus Protocol, including Anusia Battersby and Billie Hindle!

[REDACTED] began crowdfunding on Saturday and reached its goal in just 8 hours – a massive congratulations to the whole team for this incredible achievement!

Meanwhile, Soul Operator has released its season one finale today! Soul Operator blends solo TTRPGs with narrative story, creating an intriguing, compelling story that spans multiple genres.

We spoke to the creator, Tatiana Gefter, in an interview exclusive to Patreon, to find out more about their experience creating the show, and what their next plans are for Soul Operator.

What was your favourite thing about producing season one of Soul Operator?

My favorite thing about producing season one of Soul Operator has absolutely been the people I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with the past two years. I have felt beyond welcomed by other creatives in the podcast space and beyond, and am so excited to be privy to so much of that inspiring creativity, not just as a fan but as a peer. We have also been very lucky to have an incredible, niche fanbase who really care about the show and the characters. It is a huge honor to see their reactions and see their investment in the content.

For anyone who hasn’t yet checked it out, tell us a bit about the show.

Soul Operator has always been an endeavor into expanding what it means to be an Actual Play and how audio drama can be used as a medium. This season has really demonstrated not only how audio drama can be used as a worthwhile adaptation of ips, but also how solo ttrpgs can be used as a writing tool.

What will season two have in store for listeners?

Season two will take us in a very different direction in terms of tone, though the goal of the show remains the same. It will be a short while before we begin production, but we are all very excited to get back into the swing of making the show. If you would like some insight into what we have to look forward to, check out Outliers by Sam Leigh.

Would you rather fight 10 duck sized horses or one horse sized duck?

10 duck sized horses, without question. Although I would hate to fight them and would much rather keep them as my little companions to play with my cats.

You can listen to the whole of the first season of Soul Operator wherever you find podcasts or on the Rusty Quill website.

Have a good week all!
