in the conversation at the end between Lena and Gwen they mention a security force called Starkwall. That's DEFINITELY the same one that we saw at the end of episode 7's case laying fire to the charity shop

Honestly, I was wondering if it had something to do with Lena saying there were both benevolent and malevolent forces -- maybe part of the reason why the Office hires Externals is to keep the balance of those two forces?

Also, genuinely great to hear your voice, Colin, but you sound like you are going through it! 😬
I 100% understand your paranoia, my guy, but this is not sustainable. You gotta figure out another solution. 😥

I’m so excited that we’re finally getting into the alchemy stuff, properly! 😁
It came up a fair bit during the ARG, but apart from the occasional mention of “weird symbols” in a couple of statements, it hasn’t really come up in the series before. So I’m really glad it’s finally here!!! 😄

This episode put me in mind of Neal Stevenson's excellent Quicksilver, which delves deep into the world of the Natural Philosophers. Great episode. 😊

I absolutely love this episode and so many of its implications as we slowly see the darkness of the world seeping in.
My only complaint/request is wishing there was a way to reduce the sharpness of the S sounds in the audio. Sadly it might just be me because I have sensitive ears but they just come off so loud and spark in comparison to the rest of the audio. Which forces me to have to turn down the volume and strain my ears.

Newton excitement distracting from "transference and spiritual substitution of elements" and "not too much mercury... not too much sulfur." The worlds are out of balance with what happened in TMA? Celia might be hopping between worlds (probably not on purpose) and is looking for a way to control it, or at least understand why.

Welp, guess I won't be getting much done this century now as MAGP renews my hyperfixation for alchemy lmaoo
Great episode as always! Loved that Colin is also involved in alchemy somehow...

There's so much in this one... I almost wonder if there's more to the jump between worlds.. like we know TMA had the crack between and all that went along with making it wider but, this universe is doing its own thing with alchemy between realities.
If TMA fears did come here were they pulled not by just escaping but more pulled directly to this reality by something to do with what's happening on this side.
Things that make you go hmmm

Newton's apple + tree of the knowledge of good and evil from Genesis + eldritch horror = mind blown!
I love it when they use real historical figures in these statements, this just made me look up Robert Boyle, who's known as the founder of modern chemistry.

Hate to be the guy who’s always wailing about how perfectly moody and sinister the soundtrack is under the case narration butttttttt here I am again…
Absurdly excited to hear from Colin again if only for a moment. I love that he’s a fish guy. I love that Alice knows where he lives? I’ve really been pondering how close they actually were — it’s funny, Alice acts so flippant but I feel like she’s actually the heart and soul of the OIAR office, she really seems to like… want to form connections with everyone (except Gwen. for now..) and is just constantly thwarted by both the soul sucking transient nature of civil service and also the… supernatural sinister side of the job. people constantly leaving her. in my feelings now! i want her and Colin to make up ;_; and WHAT was Colin going on about, I’m going to SHAKE the answers out of him.
As someone who has absolutely no alchemical or latin knowledge, I have also never frantically googled so many things in rapid succession. I HAVE SO MANY MORE QUESTIONS NOW, AGHHHH.
Tasty tasty tasty… SamCeliaColin conspiracy board when now????
And it was good to hear Gwen back in fighting spirit after last week :) Can’t wait to see what drastic measures she decides to take next. I have my theories…
Banger episode! Just in time for the new merch too… Oh, hell, hiatus after next week might just kill me.

Excited to hear “balance” dropped again as a key word; feels like that will be a key theme.

I can’t wait to see tumblr yassify Isaac Newton. Also love the new take on the “apple falling from the tree > gravity” to “another fruit from an alchemy tree > creating an eldritch horror”

Something else interesting is Colin's line at the end "No, what I need is to not be seen. He sees too much already. Doing mummy and daddy Stasi proud, I’m sure" I initially took Stasi to be a name, but it is also a nickname for The Ministry of State Security that operated in East Germany. Possibly a reference to Klaus and the German source code in Freddy?

Oooh is the hard reset because Sam is changing how he views the OIAR/Magnus Institute? Also, if I had a nickel for every time an Alex J. Newall series featured an infectious gestalt plant that initially seemed to come from a non-living material, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice

So whatever the Protocol is it dates back to the 1600s long before the Magnus Institute.

"mummy and daddy stasi"
I had to look it up but Stasi is the secret police from East Germany before the Berlin wall fell. Who is "he"? Perhaps another agent of the eye? But one who punishes people for knowing too much?
Emma Grace
2024-06-04 15:31:00 +0000 UTC
Ooooh. Okay, if the Protocol dates back THAT far, combined with the alchemy theme, then the Magnus we’re dealing with here has GOT to be Albertus.
