Premieres and Previews
Added 2024-07-15 15:00:14 +0000 UTCHi folks,
Wishing you the very best for the coming week from everyone at Rusty Towers!
Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who attended the live listen “Drop” last week! We had a great time listening to the episode with you all and look forward to hosting another one in the near future – watch this space.
The Magnus Protocol is now in the final act of the first season, and we are already beginning to look ahead to season two and how to celebrate the release with you, our fans. Like last year, we will be offering a digital premiere to our Kickstarter backers at the Archival assistant level and above, and to our Patreon supporters at Knights and Noble tiers, which will include a preview of The Magnus Protocol’s season 2 premiere episode and some exciting bonus content! We will be providing more information about when to expect this soon.
We are also bringing back our in-person fan screening event in Manchester! We are using a slightly different venue this time around: Fairfield Social Club. This is run by the same team as our venue from last year, Cultplex, and is only five minutes down the road while offering double the capacity, meaning we’ll be able to celebrate with even more of you.
This event will be held on Sunday 27th October from 1:30pm. Tickets will be available at £35, which will include a preview screening of The Magnus Protocol Season 2 Episode 1, a question-and-answer session with members of the cast, a few freebies and other exciting content. Brand new, never-before-seen merchandise will also be available to purchase at the event.
Tickets will be going on sale on Wednesday 31st July at 10am BST via this page on our website. Please note, this event is strictly 18+ only. We will announce the release of the rest of season 2 closer to the time.
Back to season one, and this week we are on episode 22! This week, Gwen meets with Lena for a debrief.
Today, we are very excited to be welcoming a brand-new show to the RQ Network. You will be familiar with Eira Major’s work from his other shows, including Spirit Box Radio and Not Quite Dead, and we are really pleased to be able to share their latest project: Remnants. As always, exclusive to Patreon, we have an interview with Eira to find out more about the show! You can also find Eira’s previous interviews about his other shows at the following links: Clockwork Bird; Not Quite Dead; Spirit Box Radio.
1. Hello! Have we met before?
Hello again, lovely Rusty Quill Patreon folks! I’m Eira and you might know me already from the shows I already have as part of the Rusty Quill Network: Clockwork Bird; Spirit Box Radio; and Not Quite Dead! It’s really exciting to be bringing another show into the world. Remnants is a dark fantasy thriller, steeped in mysteries and weirdness and full of these fabulous characters I have absolutely loved exploring in the writing process.
Remnants is kind of a tonal midpoint between all of my existing shows. It’s tackling some big, chewy themes and doesn’t pull any punches, but it also has a sense of humour. At its heart it’s a show about people, about emotions. It’s grounded through its characters. Whether they’re there for the whole series or just a single episode, they’re always the most important thing.
2. Tell us more!
The show opens as Sir throws his new Apprentice in at the deep end. The First and Last Place is filled with objects – remnants – which hold memories. Sir teaches the Apprentice how to read them to determine if they ought to be re-shelved or discarded. The criteria Sir is working from with his decisions isn’t clear, nor is what happens to the remnants once judgement is passed, regardless of what that judgement is.
Adrift with so much new information and lack of clarity, the Apprentice pushes back against Sir’s assertions, challenging him at every turn. The more remnants he reads, the more questions he has. Not just about the remnants and the First and Last Place, but about himself and Sir, too. One question feels loudest of all: why, after an untold stretch of time, has Sir decided he can no longer do this alone?
3. What can I expect from each episode?
Each episode centres around reading a remnant, diving deep into the life and experiences of the person it is connected to. The Apprentice and Sir find them, discuss them, and detail the principals of that person’s actions, as well as their own. The stories within the remnants have links which may not seem obvious at first but grow more apparent as the show goes on.
Ultimately this is a story about people, how we impact the lives of those around us and how our perspectives shape our views of them in turn. You’ll enjoy it if you like mystery stories with lots of twists and turns and stories which focus a lot on character dynamics.
I’m so excited about this show. I really hope you’ll enjoy listening as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together.
Remnants is out now – you can find the first two episodes on the Remnants feed, wherever you find podcasts or check out the very first episode in an exclusive feed drop on The Magnus Archives/The Magnus Protocol podcast feed from 5pm today. If you enjoy the show, please consider leaving a rating, writing a review and recommending it to friends, as this is the best way to support a brand-new show!

Not 100% sure if this is the right place to put it, but I just got my Ex Altiora perfume/cologne/destinker, and it smells amazing. I smelled like a thunderstorm all night and it was just lovely.
