Updates and Upcoming

Hi folks,

Wishing you the very best for the coming week from everyone at Rusty Towers!

Firstly, we just want to run through some updates we’ve had from the Patreon team. Some of you may already be aware of a recent update regarding Patreon and the Apple iOS app. From November 2024, Apple will be introducing a 30% fee for any new subscriptions purchased via the Patreon iOS app. This will not change anything for current members, even if you use the Patreon iOS app. However, it will affect any new memberships purchased in the iOS app from November 2024 onwards.

Due to these new terms between Apple and Patreon, there will be a few changes on the Rusty Quill Patreon for you to be aware of and so that you are fully informed for if you ever unsubscribe with the plan to later re-join. Patreon has given all creators the option to automatically increase prices on the iOS app so that Apple’s fee doesn’t impact creators' income. This will mean that, after November 2024, new members signing-up via the iOS app will be paying more each month than our current members or folks who sign-up via any non-iOS method. With this in mind, we strongly recommend that anyone thinking of signing-up to any Patreon – not just our own – does so via a web browser or desktop computer, rather than through the iOS app on Apple devices. Not only would signing up with the iOS app lead to a user paying more each month, but the creator will also not see any of that 30% fee; it goes directly to Apple. Once a subscription is set up using, for example a browser, there are no issues with you using the iOS app – these changes will only affect billing.

Another change you will notice here on Rusty Quill’s Patreon is a change from “First of the Month Billing” to a more standard subscription model, as required by Apple. For members who joined us before 16th August, nothing will change – you will continue to be billed at the beginning of each month. However, anyone who joined us on or after last Friday will now pay when they join and be billed monthly on the same date – for example, anyone who joined us on 18th August on a monthly subscription will be billed again on 18th September. This is a change we had been discussing making this year regardless of Apple’s new policies for Patreon, as it has become a more typical subscription model.

Once again, these changes will have little to no impact for any continuing subscriptions – but we do know that for various reasons folks may have to temporarily leave, and we also want to cover these changes for new members in the future to refer to. We are so grateful to you all for your support here – your donations go directly back into creating our Rusty Quill Original shows, paying our team members and covering essential costs. As always, we will keep you updated on any and all changes coming to Patreon in these newsletters.

Meanwhile, in this week’s episode of The Magnus Protocol, there’s spring-cleaning at the OIAR. As always, this is released in early access on Tuesday at 4pm BST, and publicly on Thursday at 4pm BST.

Finally, we are delighted to see that there are now over 3,700 folks who have signed-up and pre-pledged through our landing page for The Magnus Protocol Mysteries board game by Rusty Quill and Indie Boards and Cards! We are always completely blown away by the support you have for our projects and we are really excited to be working with the Indie Boards and Cards’ incredible team to bring The Magnus Protocol to you in a whole new way! You can now also visit the official BackerKit page to keep an eye on the countdown and to join over 500 supporters in following the BackerKit page to be notified of the campaign launch!

Finally, as a quick reminder, we are hoping to be able to see some of you at events later this year! Firstly, Protocol cast members Shahan, Anusia and Ryan will be hosting a Q&A and signing at The London Podcast Festival at 7pm BST on Sunday 8th September 2024. We’ll also be hosting a panel and meet & greet at MCM Comic Con London on Saturday 26th October 2024 with Alex, Lowri, Anusia, Billie, and Shahan! You can find out more about these events at www.rustyquill.com/event or by clicking the links above to purchase tickets. We can’t wait to see you there!

Thank you, yes I did get a receipt email so it seems all is good 🙂 I was just confused by the other email that said I that to click a button to confirm but nothing happened after clicking it.

Thank you for your patience while we checked with Indie Boards and Cards! They've said that you should have received a receipt, and have asked if you've checked your spam folder. They've also asked us to assure you that you will be able to claim what you paid for - you will be able to contact their team directly once the crowdfund launches properly in October. Thank you so much for supporting the board game!

As if Apple doesn't make enough money to pay off half the countries student loans they now need to take money from hardworking content creators just because an app exists on their os. This is just greeder than hell. I hope that people all become aware of the website work around so no one is forced to pay more.

Hi there - the above information is just to do with the Patreon app on Apple devices. The changes Apple is requiring of Patreon regarding Patreon subscriptions on the Patreon app shouldn't impact podcast apps.

Rusty Quill

That is some serious BS. Do you know that if you use a podcast app that isn’t Apple Podcasts is it still going to be an issue?

Corey Frampton

How can I check that I'm signed up as a prepledge? It took the money but I never got a confirmation email!

Mother of Ferrets

Wow, what's wrong with apple.

good looking out 👍
