In what universe does he think he has any right to disparage Deb? How could he ever think Nathan would ever want to spend any time with him unless forced to?
I guess Lucas and Brooke are together now. As a Peyton/Lucas shipper (no idea if I'll still be one going forward, it's early days) this makes me sad. And both Peyton and Haley talk about how it's probably not forever but how can Peyton date him after Brooke? That won't be good for their friendship.
Also, I really enjoyed Keith and Whitey in the car at the end. Turns out without all the pressure and bullshit, these boys really do just enjoy playing the game. It was nice to see.

Haley used the word "easy" but I see Brooke as a "safe" choice (from Lucas POV). Few episodes ago, Lucas opened his heart to Peyton, which is a risky move, we can all relate, but Peyton pushed him away harshly so... the boy is allowed to be frustrated. He has his own issues too.

And as someone who wants Lucas and Peyton to end up together, it's a little easier to go harder on Brooke than maybe I should. Oops.

2023-12-06 21:51:39 +0000 UTCYou know, the hardest part of responding to comments is trying to figure out how I felt when I watched this episode as opposed to how I feel now! (I just started S2- I think I just did 2X3). That said, I was kind of afraid that Lucas meant Brooke was 'easy', and that's why he wanted to be with her. I don't think that's actually what he meant, but at the time, if someone had said that to me, I'd have believed them. That's a really interesting point. I've been talking about how Lucas has a father figure, and Nathan didn't really. But I never really talked about how neither of the girls did (at least until more recently.) I'm definitely coming around on Brooke. Ooh, I'm totally gonna be on the lookout for the little intimacies in the future.

Brooke has had suspicions that Peyton liked Lucas but Peyton has been denying it all season and when Brooke checked in with her twice this episode about it, Peyton said nothing. By the end of the episode, Brooke is just guessing at reasons why Peyton is being weird cause Peyton refuses to tell her and Lucas has decided to keep it from her too. I think that's how Brooke arrives at the third wheel idea cause what else is there if Peyton keeps saying Lucas is fair game and she doesn't want him and she's fine with them as a couple?

2023-12-05 03:16:16 +0000 UTCIn all fairness to Nathan. He really isn't all that bad of a dude anymore. Certainly no worse than Lucas. Lucas is being a little shit lately. Nathan has been getting better. Lucas has been getting worse. The way Lucas talked to Keith was pretty bratty. The way he talks about Peyton and Brooke really annoys me. He talks about how Peyton is covered head to toe in issues as if that's a reason to not be with her. Which you could argue is pretty crappy in and of itself but also Brooke clearly has some of the same issues as Peyton. Both of them clearly have absent parents and yet Lucas does not seem to care about that. Peyton just wears her feelings on her sleeve where clearly Brooke has her own set of issues and hides her pain in her bubbly personality. I love Nathan in this episode. The way he's supporting his mom and confronting Dan at every turn. The way he told Haley that it wasn't about sex with him and told her to take as much time as she wanted. Nathan's a pretty great guy. BTW I love Haley's reaction to that. She looks so happy and you can tell that she feels so safe and secure and cared for. Both of their sweet little smiles just slay me! Also if you look really closely in that scene Haley is rubbing her foot on his back. James and Joy are so good with adding little physical intimacies to the relationships. Those little intimacies are underrated cause it really makes a relationship feel real and i've found in recent years that not every actor does that. I think it takes a really comfortable working relationship to go beyond the script and improvise little things like that.
