One Tree Hill 1X11: The Living Years

Did Nathan actually quit? I mean, he did, but I can't imagine it's for the rest of the series, right?

Also, that counseling session was a disaster. And we can all agree it was 100% Dan's fault. I will die on this hill. And he had the audacity to flirt with the waitress while his wife is threatening to leave him, and he thinks it's all a joke?

Plus, Peyton's dad is back! In case you missed it, I'm a sucker for a good teenager/parent relationship. It looks like they may have one.

I'm not sure what it says about me, but the Nathan/Haley relationship is growing on me.

Comments

I'm having a hard time responding to this comment because I have a different opinion of Brooke now than I did when I watched this episode (I just watched 2X6). That said, her vulnerability really showed in this episode, like you said. It was nice to see this side of her. She's been coming across so confidently up until now; it definitely made me feel for her more than I had up until this point.

oh brooke! i think at the heart of things, brooke is very lonely and very self conscious about a lot of things. she doesn't feel like she's good enough for lucas and like she can't offer him the things peyton can. it hurts me to see her have such little confidence in herself when she has so much bravado in other aspects. it really shows how vulnerable she is and it makes me sad that both lucas and peyton can't really see the things she struggles with. i loved nathan this episode. his talk with haley about not changing herself was so different from things i have seen in other teen shows especially from this era. a really good episode overall! i'm enjoying revisiting these early episodes again!

I think a lot of us probably feel that way. I mean, at least I have at a lot of points in my youth. My hobbies seemed so trivial to friends who did more artistic endeavors. I basically only read. Which is actually still pretty much the only hobby I do, but I don't feel as though it's inferior anymore. Well, to be fair, she really played up that 'slutty cheerleader' stereotype for herself up until recently. Yes, I love this for Nathan. It's obvious he really loves the game; he just doesn't love all the bullshit that comes with it. And who can blame him? I cannot believe I've rooting actively for Haley and Nathan. When this show started, I couldn't imagine rooting for Nathan at all. Let alone with Haley, the cinnamon roll of this show. Lol.

I think Brooke could benefit from another hobby or two but she does have cheerleading and is very into that. I think she's feeling like her interests are inferior to Lucas's in general and then to have his interests shared by Peyton creates an insecurity that he has a stronger bond with someone else. Especially since no one besides Peyton treats her like she has any layers beyond slutty cheerleader. Haley and Nathan had definitely won me over by this point in the show. I don't think it's been about Lucas for Nathan for a few episodes now. I really liked that Nathan chose to quit basketball for now cause I feel like even though he loves playing he'll benefit from not having the pressure to be the star of the team or Dan's mini me.
