News and journalism has lost its way in the quest for profits. The 1976 movie Network, boldly predicted the world we live in today. News is not journalism, but a spectacle to enrage, incite, and push opinions as fact in the name of advertisers dollars.
That's a cynical view I realize, but that is the reality and not just an American reality.
Journalism should defend other journalists and the facts first and foremost. Democracy and media literacy cannot exist without a free press.
Journalism should lift up the voices of those who have no voice. Governments, large businesses, and major non-profits have PR firms, lobbyists, and editors on speed dial. Marginalize people have social media, and the dim hope someone hears their tiny voice.
Journalism should hold those in power accountability, regardless of party or personal view point. Journalism should - hurt - for a journalist every now and then because of your commitment to the truth, not a narrative.
We made this video last year for April Fools Day. It has even more meaning today.

If your primary news sources look like this, it's time to change the channel.
