Added 2022-05-24 22:21:22 +0000 UTCUpdate 2: 5/24/22 18:10 PDT: 21 dead - 18 children and 3 adults
Update 5/24/22 15:25 PDT: The children were between 7 to 10 years old and in grades 2 through 4.
At noon today, Central Time (Chicago, USA), 18 year old Salvador Ramos, of Uvalde, Texas, walked into the Robb Elementary School armed with one or two firearms and open fired. As of the most recent update from Texas Governor Greg Abbott, 16 elementary school students, one teacher, and Ramos are dead. Another 13 children and 2 adults have been wounded. One adult and one child are known to be in critical condition, the other adult has suffered a "graze" from a bullet. Ramos was apparently killed by local law enforcement.
In addition, police have discovered that Ramos killed his grandmother before going to the school. At this time we don't have information on what Ramos's connection to Robb Elementary is, or if he has one.
Complicating things for Governor Abbott, the National Rifle Association (NRA) annual meeting is in Houston, Texas from May 26 to May 28. Abbott is currently scheduled to speak at the event on Friday.
United States President Joe Biden is returning from an Asia-Pacific trip, and reportedly has been advised of the situation in Texas. The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms is assisting local authorities.
Robb Elementary School has about 600 students. Parents have been assembled at a different school as authorities process the scene and await to release the surviving/uninjured students to their parents.
That's what we know.
