After months of pretending that the Kremlin was not using oil, natural gas, and coal as an economic weapon, the gloves came off.

Russia has announced that the Nordstream 1 pipeline will not be turned back on until sanctions are lifted. 

The same sanctions that the Kremlin has said for six months aren't hurting Russia and are only hurting Europe, the United States, and their allies. We'll ignore the fact that global inflation has peaked and commodity prices are dropping in most sectors - and some commodities are dropping like a rock. OPEC has become nervous as oil tickles $85 to $90 a barrel and cuts production by 100K barrels, which is symbolic. United States "driving season" is over as of today and China has tens of millions in COVID lock downs.

There were a series of anti-sanction, anti-NATO, Pro-Russian protests in European cities that were at a large scale and highly organized. I can't say how it works in Europe, but in the United States, that typically means an event was astroturfed and funded by outside sources to make it appear spontaneous and planned on a short time table.

The Kremlin is delaying the referendum in Kherson (that's official now), which was already announced would be in "the autumn," although some people translated that as September 30.

In any European nation with dependency on Russian energy imports, and their economic ministers didn't see this coming? Those ministers in my book?

I don't think you need to be nuerodivergent and able to see larger patterns or an expert in the oil and gas sector to have known this was going to happen and when it was going to happen.

The worst thing Europe can do is to yield any ground because I'll repeat it again - any capitulation is not viewed by Putin or the Kremlin as a sign of cooperation. It is viewed as a sign of weakness and will only cause further aggression. The best way to deal with a playground bully is to punch them in the nose (metaphor, not advocating direct military action against Russia).

The lifting of any sanctions will not be for the benefit of the Russian people. The Russian military-industrial complex doesn't exist and is dependent on outside sources. The Kremlin never expected for Ukraine to fight back, let alone the amount of military and economic support.
