Russia-Ukraine Flash Report 28 FEB 2023 13:30 PST - Drone Attacks Across Russia?
Added 2023-02-28 21:30:30 +0000 UTCWe've seen the reports of up to a dozen drone strikes across Russia, some as close as 95 kilometers from Moscow. Ukraine has not confirmed responsibility and Russian state media is declaring, yes there were drones, but it was no big deal.
The truth matters and we are committed to be right instead of first. The pictures and videos we've seen are showing the drones involved appear to be reconnaissance drones, although they can carry a payload of up to 20 kilograms.
We are also seeing reports this afternoon (our time) that there was a large explosion at a Russian airbase. We don't know if the explosion is at the airbase, is drone related, accident related, or something else.

That said, there have been a few times NPR has seemed a little shakey reporting on some international things.
