Russia-Ukraine Flash Report 11 JAN 2023 14:00 PST - Leopard 2s Coming to Ukraine
Added 2023-01-11 21:54:56 +0000 UTCIt appears this is a done deal. During a visit to Lviv, Ukraine, Polish president Andrzej Duda announced that Poland is sending a "company" of German-built Leopard 2 main battle tanks to Ukraine. This would represent 14 tanks following NATO standards.
It is widely expected that this is the first of a series of announcements of modern Western main battle tanks that will be supplied to Ukraine by several countries. The Rheinmetall Rh-120 main gun has an effective range of 4,000 meters (or up to 8,000 meters with specialized ammo) and can fire "on the fly." In practical terms, the Leopard 2 can engage any Russian MBT in theater while remaining out of range of effective direct fire. A Russian T-62 tank would have no chance against a Leopard 2, with an effective firing range of only 1,400 meters.
It looks like I picked the right day to have the team return from a break!
We cannot confirm if the United Kingdom has committed to sending Challenger tanks to Ukraine, and we caution to not speculate only on rumors and unnamed reports.

2023-01-12 11:39:22 +0000 UTCMechanized warfare. Heavy armor makes a difference along Bradley FV.
2023-01-12 00:55:11 +0000 UTCI was thinking the same regarding training. Itβs possible the βdelayβ in announcing this has been timed to coincide with the completion of training. Letβs hope we see all of the expected nations announce over the coming days. ππ»
2023-01-11 22:20:43 +0000 UTCExcellent news! Ukrainian heroes are needlessly being lost in & around Bakhmut because they lack the necessary heavy equipment.

2023-01-11 22:05:58 +0000 UTCBig news. I suspect that Ukrainian tank crews have been secretly training on the platform for some time now so that the inevitable supply can be pushed into combat ASAP. It's going to be very interesting to see how well Leo2 performs against the very machinery it was designed to destroy.
