Flash Report 09 AUG 2023 - 02:00 PDT - Big Explosion Outside of Moscow
Added 2023-08-09 08:54:43 +0000 UTCIn Sergiev Posad, a 1600 square meter warehouse full of "pyrotechnics" adjacent to the Zagorsk Optical and Mechanical Plant exploded, causing major damage to the adjacent factory and blowing out windows and more than 300 meters away.
Russian sources initially claimed the blast was caused by a drone strike, then walked it back.
Twenty-four hours ago, Bloomberg reported that Russia had reversed engineered the Thales thermal imaging sites they were buying from France. The claim was Russia was close to starting serial production of the site and they would have been assembled at the Zagorsk Optical and Mechanical Plant.
Videos from inside the factory show it is devastated. At least nine people are reportedly injured.
