What's the big story? A series of actions across Russia has made it clear - President Putin is tightening his grip even more as the 2024 elections approach. Phase II of the purge, which started in July 2023 after the Prigozhin Insurrection, has started.
What's the second story? Marinka holds.

- Ukrainian President Zelenskyy told the Associated Press the Russia-Ukraine War has entered a new phase
- Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief General Valery Zaluzhny said that a lack of demining equipment, artillery support, electronic warfare systems, aviation, and missiles hobbled the summer offensive
- Retired United States General David Petraeus said Ukraine’s summer offensive faltered due to too little and delayed allied support
- Vitaly Polovenka was appointed as a Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine tasked with improving logistics and sustainment
- More than 4,000 Ukrianians have been charged with collaborationism or treason since February 24, 2022
- The rodent problem for Russian and Ukrainian forces has gotten significantly worse
- The U.S. Senate won’t vote on a military aid package until after December 11
- A former PMC Wagner Group mercenary was fined 150,000 roubles for discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation
- The Kremlin has started the second phase of its purge of critics of the government
- Russian President Putin signed an edict to expand the armed forces by another 170,000 troops
- Russia claims since January 1, 452,000 people have signed contracts with the military
- Russia’s cottage industry for drone production is rapidly expanding and is poised to outstrip Ukraine’s capabilities
- But all is not happy among Russian drone operators, with the Kremlin making unusual demands

That is 100% on me. I am steadfast in no more work after 01:00 hours local time, and yesterday's SITREP wasn't complete until shortly after 01:00 hours. That means no one to sign off on the script. Working on a solution. The challenge is as more and more OSINT accounts give up, get deleted by social media, or are canceled for the right or wrong reasons, the intelligence gathering for us keeps getting longer and longer. Israel-Hamas has not been an issue for the last week due to the cease-fire.

ASSESSMENT: Venezuela is heading towards war, and it has Russia's fingerprints all over it. It is not lost on us that before October 7, Israel and Saudi Arabia were days or weeks away from normalizing relations. It was widely considered a done deal in diplomatic circles. On Thursday, Venezuela hit its six-month due date for the reduction in U.S. sanctions to continue and an opportunity to permit more Western investment, something Venezuela desperately needs. Literally, on the same day, someone throws a metaphorical match into a bucket of gasoline. OPINION: You almost could believe that Moscow is throwing matches at every potential hot spot in the world where they hold influence to cause destabilization.

2023-12-02 22:21:14 +0000 UTCIt is truly astonishing to me that this second phase of the purge is playing out exactly the way we have seen other dictators make a grab for total power, whether you think of Hitler, Chavez/Maduro, Xi or Stalin. Perhaps they are not lining people up against walls, but they are sure getting away with a lot in the age of the Internet. Last week the podcast The Red Line published an assessment of the Arab Spring 13 years on. Depressingly, the youth unemployment and the discontent in these countries has gotten even worse than it was then. However, governments have learned how to control the Internet and that is why we do not see any demonstrations any more. Russia has taken a page from that playbook and they sure are getting away with it. There is also this new development in Venezuela. To me, there is a direct line between Russia's violation of Ukraine's borders in 2014 and 2022, getting away with it (so far), and these countries with territorial disputes like Azerbaijan and Venezuela making their own moves in their own little corners of the world. This is serious, as it involves Brazil too.
