here's a little look behind the scenes of HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLVES. for the bite test scene, i originally wanted to rotoscope a sock puppet eating a burger. the idea was to make the animation look uncanny and off-putting in order to catch the viewer off guard, thus enhancing the joke. the footage i recorded of me chomping on a sponge with a sock puppet did not turn out very good, so i deleted the live-action footage off of my drive to make space for more pics of my dogs, and i just animated the old-fashioned way, stylus in one hand and sock puppet in the other hand for reference. i think i was still able to achieve an uncannily realistic look, despite nothing being traced and the timing being completely made up. i underestimated how long the legally distinct pastiche of "girls on film" was, and there were a lot of frames by the end of it, none of which i wanted to color. so i left it monochrome and went for a sketchy look as an homage to "take on me," a completely unrelated 80s song. i hope you enjoyed the bite test scene bc it probably took about as long to animate as the entire rest of the episode. probably not going this hard on animation in future episodes but it was fun to do once
also my proudest moment of the episode is the part when TY shakes the bag and the burger plops out onto the scale, followed by a really quiet coughing sound in the background. i went to wendy's and recorded some audio to use as background noise for the video. i also ate some chicken nuggets while i was there
i am also considering making a couple changes to the video before i post it publicly next week
increasing color saturation (my video codec desaturated everything)
removing some stray pixels that are barely noticeable in the intro
adding some munching sounds to the taste test scene
minor fixes to audio
other than that i want to quickly animate some of the cut lines from this episode. there's maybe one or two that are worth sharing so it wouldn't take long to animate. this post is getting long so i'll let u go about ur day now. have a good one!!
