Hello!

I want to thank my patrons for a successful first image, and welcome my supporters. You are all much appreciated!

Up next, I am going to design an aspect of the Birrin universe that I have kept mostly vague until now; their homeworld, Chriirah, and its solar system with attendant planets, asteroids and parent star.

Many years ago I sketched out a possible map of the birrin world, which you can see above, as well as sample 3D renderings of the planet from space using mashed up Nasa Blue Marble imagery. I even attempted to design a working tectonic plate system!

Using these basic images as starting points, I will begin the design process. As always, feel free to comment and call out anything you see that may not be scientifically plausible, or to ask any questions you have!

Haven't decided on rotation direction! As far as distance, it is slightly closer to its sun than earth is.

Alex

Yep, the arrows do show the plate spread directions :) Though this isnt a final map by any means there will definitely be at least one rift zone because volcanoes are awesome.

Alex

Can't wait! Love the consideration for the tectonics... guessing the arrows in the smaller diagram show the plate movement. Is that one coast running along the middle going to be some kind of rift valley? Exciting stuff :]

I'm interested in knowing how far from its star Chriirah is, and how fast -and to which direction does the planet rotate? oWo From the picture, I'd guess it rotates West like Earth, but I could be wrong.

Aww yiss!

Alex

This is really really exciting!

A very good question, and one I had to ask myself. Basically now that I am doing the re-design, I am removing that obvious yin-yang shape, as I want the project to be more realistic. The large arms of land are indeed meant to be fault upthrust zones and I may see if I can plausible keep such things. Alternatively they could be highly compressed continent remnants.

Alex

Do you rely on random natural shapes (say, clouds or erosion patterns) to generate the basic design, or do you mostly construct based on personal preferences? Seems that just like our planet has a sort of theme going with two landmasses stretching north-south, flat ends towards north pole, pointy bits pointing towards the south pole (pardon the baby-speak), chriirah seems to operate on a ying/yang kind of logic. Basically how much do you rely on natural patterns, personal/symbolic aesthetic choices and geologic likelihood (if there even is such a thing in literally a universe of possibilities, frankly I have no idea)? My question is mostly prompted by the impressive tentacle-like features that wrap around the planet and don't really resemble anything on earth, except perhaps mid-oceanic ridges if they emerged from the sea, or mountain chains on largely submerged continents (which would make sense, as chriirah is warmer than earth and thus probably has higher sea levels).

Gonna be a complex one, this :P

Alex

You are the best. This is so cool!
