Sketching the Birrin City

Work has begun on the urban life of the birrin, and these (very) initial sketches give some idea of where I would like to go.

A: An old sketch for a never-completed image of the birrin 'whaling' industry, and one I hope to complete some day. I want to include it here as it forms the early inspiration - the birrin are carnivores and love their food, so I wish to depict that aspect of their lives in the city.

BCD: Much of my research was of African and middle eastern cities, particularly their open markets and town squares. I am exploring the idea of a square showing birrin daily life at the forefront, with their city in the back. The giant statue is taken from my older Kaybor Gate image, now a furnace for this cities' rather unusual funerary practices!

Fair point!

Great sketches btw. I like the modern looking statue.

Stranger funeral practices than draining the blood into the sewer, replacing it with formaldehyde, putting it in an expensive varnished wood and metal vault, and burying it never to see the light of day again?
