Episode 28: Minding the Darkness, Minding the Light w/Peter Dale Scott (Part 3)

This is Part 3 of Minding the Darkness, Minding the Light—our oral history series with the brilliant historian, political theorist, and poet--Professor Peter Dale Scott. Accompanied by Ben Howard and Aaron Good, Peter reflects upon his early years at Berkeley, including his experiences with the Berkeley Free Speech Movement and the antiwar movement. The Reichstag Fire and other matters are discussed as well.

Special thanks to Casey Moore for the episode art and Dana Chavarria for the sound engineering!

Comments

This series is excellent, and I really wish more scholars/public intellectuals like Scott would spend some time doing something similar. I can't recall now whether this was the episode that includes a comment about Gore Vidal, but the mention sent me on the hunt for Vidal's comments about Arthur Bremer's diary. American Exception patrons might enjoy reading the entire essay, which is not about Bremer's diary but features it towards the end of a brief survey of the fiction of E. Howard Hunt. (I won't spoil why it crops up there.) Vidal's enduring sense of superiority is very much in evidence as he casts his eyes over the efforts of a rival for literary grants during the postwar lustrum. He also touches lightly on the JFK assassination -- never missing a chance to attack RFK's reputation -- and the Plumbers Unit. You'll find it in Vidal's collection Matters of Fact & Fiction, although it was originally published in the New York Review of Books in December 1976.

His mom was a spook too from what I gathered from CAM. Hopefully we’ll see some of these war criminals brought justice in our lifetime.
