The Cubans in general got used for all sorts of criminal activities...but they are largely too crude for designing bioweapons...they were used for stuff like Operation 40, drug running, organizing death squads, working with Operation Condor, Iran-Contra. All purpose specialists in criminal mayhem, basically...

When you said Pruit Igoe it immediately reminded me of the Godfrey Reggio/Philip Glass movie Koyaanisqatsi which featured a part where they demolished the projects.

Great work fellas. So much respect for how much of this stuff you have quick at hand in your recollections. Have you all come across any intersections between anti-Castro Cubans and the US bioweapon apparatus? I recently read most of a book, Dr. Mary’s Monkey, which was extremely entertaining and contained some fascinating apparently true information, but was also loaded with eyebrow-raising coincidences and extreme claims that didn’t appear to have basis in fact. It struck me as a quite artful “sh*tcoat”, which made me wonder what the truth was that was worth such an effort to obscure. It does seem like there was some bioweapon research happening in New Orleans, and that Dr. Mary Sherman’s murder on the day that investigators from the Warren Commission rolled into town may, like Frank Olsen’s murder, have had something to do with keeping the biowar stuff under wraps. She was working for a Dr. Oschner who apparently proved the causal link between smoking and lung cancer, and the book links Oschner and Sherman to research on viral carcinogenesis. Those details have an interesting complement/counterpart in the Cuban government’s subsequent creation of the first ever vaccine against a type of lung cancer. That accomplishment could be totally unrelated, Cuba is famous for its tobacco exports after all, but an interesting pairing of dots on the corkboard. Thinking about just the stuff I know about, the assassination attempts on Castro, the (probable) African swine fever attack, the Cuban government’s pivot to biomedical internationalism and biotechnology was a brilliant strategy. Its investment in vaccine sovereignty for example has clearly proven itself through this pandemic. I wonder how much of this decision was informed by a knowledge that the US was not going to stop its program of biomedical terror, assassination and agricultural sabotage. A strong biotech sector could take advantage of Cuba’s biggest assets, in a positive feedback loop of education, medical capacity and advancements, basic research and technological advancements, revenue from the above… making socialist lemonade from the lemons of capitalist bioterror.

The article by Robert Mackey referenced in the opening is INSANE.
