There is a subtitles mistranslation in Episode 4 actually. It's not "the crime unfolding before me" when Reinhard sees the insignia but "the crime of *overlooking* what's unfolding before me", i.e. Reinhard would be committing a crime if he just ignored the glowing insignia in Felt's hand.

Subaru is the best protagonist, flawed totally, but in the end good wanting person. His growth and how he evolves through all this insanity is what make Re:Zero a masterpiece of storytelling.

Something that wasn't explained very well, but that scene where Subaru was hanging outside of the ground-dragon carriage and his arms caught wind: Ground-dragons have a Blessing (aka Divine Protection) that blocks wind when they are running. Subaru went outside of that protection enough to be yoinked out by the wind.

It's the opposite. They cut it because they weren't planning ahead. There was no guarantee it wouldn't be a one-and-done series.

I've heard light novel readers talk about that. I'm hoping they include stuff they cut out in season 3 and hoping it was a long term directorial decision...but season 2 makes me doubt that.

Generally speaking I think the anime does a really good job with the adaptation from the light novel, however I think this arc suffers the most from weird decisions to cut important content as well as a lot more characterisation for some characters (priscilla suffers the most from this as her introduction is significantly longer and gives you a much better idea of her personality) Most baffling is an entire conversation between Al (pricsilla's knight) and subaru during the ride to the castle that concerns some significant information regarding the world and subaru being transported to it.

Well said! I remember judging hard in season 1 then feeling like crap when more of Subaruโ€™s past is revealed in the next season. Although it wasnโ€™t exactly for the same reasons, I struggled with depression in my adolescence to the point where I was homeschooled for a portion of high school as I just couldnโ€™t/didnโ€™t want to wake up.

The hero complex gets real bad in this arc ๐Ÿ˜‚

Night Sterling

Yeah this arc is cringe incarnate. Arguably Subaru at his absolute most misogynistic, and that's saying something.

Anders Pike

I can see both sides, personally I'm more on the side of John but I can totally understand people struggling, particularly from what people tend to 'expect' from anime characters (i.e. almost unflinching competence). Subaru is flawed in very human, relatable ways that honestly I think some viewers can find hit a little too close to home than they'd like to admit. Easily my favourite written protagonist in anime,

Jay Craig

Yeah, it was definitely the hardest part to watch. Some people can't stand Subaru from the start for some reason, but I know a lot of people that drop the show at this part because they hate what happens. It may be the point, but it's still a challenge to get through.

Appriser

It really wasn't, this is the arc that made the show interesting. Subaru being cringy and awkward is part of his character and also part of how his developement

Oh... I love the show but maaan this arc was so hard to watch, I had to stop watching the show for almost a year lol but the pay off was amazing
