Future Planning for A Day Off No Matter What
Added 2020-09-16 08:09:32 +0000 UTCI've been starting to plan out the conclusion. I think it's kind of three parts- the setup and their time on the beach, then why they were really there, then the conclusion.
Instead of this whole comic taking around 12 pages like I expected, I think it'll take 20 pages (meaning 7 more pages). But that kind of thing usually happens. It always takes more space to show something than you expect.
If you want a spoiler, this is what I have in mind based on my current plans-

The computer doesn't believe they are who they claim. The most fan-service-y way to do that might be that they both seem to have better figures than the two mannequins. It chooses to self-destruct. It might say something specific like "data-core self-destruct".

Back up top, Annie in her Pulse suit comes shooting out of water with Lucy in arms just as an underwater explosion hits the surface. Water rains down on them along with one of Annie's robots.
Page 16-
Back at their backpacks, Annie says it's probably time they went back so Doorman can bring them home. Lucy says she's mad that Annie couldn't let them have a day off, and she's not leaving yet. They argue a little.
Page 17-
Doorman opens a doorway, waits, and then closes it again. He makes some comment about how he'll send someone after them if they aren't there in the morning. Now at night, a shot of Annie and Lucy sitting around a fire they've built. Lucy brought food, so they are both eating quietly.
Page 18-
Maybe a page with them talking, and kind of making up. In way, Annie's too compulsive to change, and Lucy kinda enjoyed the adventure, she just wanted to know in advance.
Page 19-
In the morning, Annie wakes up and doesn't see Lucy anywhere. She finds her in the water. She says that she went diving and only a small part of the underwater lair was destroyed.
Page 20-
This time when Doorman opens a doorway they walk through. And say something about they'll be going back sometime. It's clear that Lucy has that goofy helmet peaking out of her backpack. They both must have taken the costumes with them.
How does this sound? Should I try to cut back on the pages?
The ending isn't that different than I originally planned, but the parts leading up are different. I originally meant for them to realize they spend too long and rush back to Doorman only to barely make it, still in the villain costumes. But I wondered if I was following the A Day Off "No Matter What" part of the title. Originally Lucy was going to make a much bigger deal of wanting a day off without a problem, then she'd complain and remind the reader every time a new complication appeared. But I thought that wasn't as much fun as her accidentally getting pulled into Annie's exploration.
