When I saw this film in the theater the battle sequences were almost traumatic.... back then you really hadn't seen war depicted that way before .... it was a gut punch.... more than the story, I think this film really portrays the "war is hell" battle sequences ... I remember one of the "call of duty" video games being heavily influenced by this movie....
