I thoroughly enjoyed watching you guys enjoy the absolute zaniness of this film. I was on the edge of my seat as the end got closer and closer. Everytime someone sees this for the first time, I can't help but revel in their confusion when the film leaves Rock Ridge and goes into the dancing tuxedo dudes, and then as the movie further devolves into a full fledged tearing down of the fourth-wall! Incidentally, Mel Brooks himself was playing the cross-eyed governor, as well as the Indian chief in Barts flashback. The one unfortunate aspect of this movie is there are tons of references throughout that gradually become lost as the years advance. You say that the jokes & gags didn't really leave you enough time before the next one. Believe it or not, there's a whole lot more that went completely over your heads. From the "welcome sheriff" speech (laurel, and hearty handshake = Laurel & Hardy), to the Marlene Deitrich spoof of "Lily VonSchtupp", to the constant references to Hedy Lamarr, etc etc, and on & on. Glad you guys had a blast watching this.
