Another great B&W horror movie from this time period is Village of the Damned. A more complex story with an even more terrifying villain. You can see some influences from that movie in this.

2023-10-06 07:18:38 +0000 UTCIt was also considered kind of tacky to make a “serious” adult movie in color back then, especially in the 40’s and 50’s. It’s kind of the equivalent to a 3D movie today, reserved mostly for big blockbuster Marvel movies and stuff like that.

Color film technology goes back to the 1930s but the cameras, film and equipment were saved for big budget productions. Lower budget or movies without advanced effects or cinematography were usually Black and White.
