Lazarus, Phase Two: Cloaks and Robes

It's that time again, a time when test out mettle and command the paint to be where our minds place it. This time we are putting our focus towards the tones and volumes adorning the tabards of office of a one Captain Lazarus. Drop shadows are the new hotness and I'm not going to be left out, look forward to that towards the end :)

As always, feel free to ask questions and I am happy to hear constructive feedback from the people supporting me.

Haha, I'm always happy when someone catches my weird references. Many thanks, Joshua! There are a lot of ways to interpret drapery and light interaction, similar to NMM, I think people sometimes throw every approach at once in the beginning and it can be sort of baffling. But also, we learn through exercise I suppose :)

That’s an interesting way to use a broken line as a highlight to suggest texture. At this scale, subtle things like that seem to do a lot overall effect. Drapery always seems to be challenging in painting and drawing. Black seems to be a tricky subject, but I’ve noticed you’re really trying to get us to become more aware about pushing out from the mid tones in both directions. It’s definitely easier to observe than to put into practice. Awesome work and way to reference Super Mario Brothers 3!

Heck yeah, that is the problem I see coming up the most. It varies depending on the surface are you're aiming to claim so there is a bit of a sliding scale relative to the output you're after 🤓 But we didn't come be locked in a circle, knowledge is power, we remain unchained!

If there is one thing I've taken away from this learning experience, it would have to be knowing the meaning of "a controllable amount of paint on the brush" in a purposeful way.
