Fatebound Belts

Greetings everyone!

Our next items is a truly interesting wondrous item in the form of the Fatebound Belts. These two belts are unique in that they require attunement from two creatures, but the benefits it gives can change the tides of combat. After all, two waists are better than one.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

If that strikes your fancy, consider becoming a Patron

Design notes from Matthew:
It’s not a rarity for me to start items with the statement “Hey Fernando, I have a really weird idea”. In fact, this happens once every few weeks, but these belts were definitely one of those items.
My original thought was to have a set of belts that was constantly chained together and meant that you could never get too far from your ally that you were chained to, but I quickly realized that would just be annoying and borderline unusable for play. We try to remember the fun factor in our items and that would have put a damper on it. This actually opened up the design of the item a lot more as I could make it a bit more powerful as a once per day activation.
One of the things I picture with these belts is two martial characters trading blows back and forth on a single enemy locking them down on the field. Or you could have a ranger and their partnered beast use them as well. There’s really no limit in my mind that would stop you from doing it. Versatility and options are what I want our items to be all about!
Illustration notes from Fernando:
The mechanics on this item are pretty great, but also kind of hard to illustrate.  The overall visual was always clear because it’s part of the concept but we explored different symbols for the buckle, from work horses to astrology but in the end twins is what felt right.  Each belt buckle is a mirror of the other, when connected the gems light up along with either the left or right twin figure.  We explored making the chain ethereal but ended up making it solid instead for gameplay purposes.  Since belts are kind of static the chain itself looks alive with movement in order to give the image some dynamism.
