One More Thing: Oath of the Battle Hymn

Greetings everyone!

I have to say, this is a pretty cool moment for us. We passed a goal at the end of last month and that means we get to create a special piece of content that is exclusive to you, the patrons, each month. We've left the option open to explore a lot of different ideas with these releases that we're dubbing "One More Thing". Some months it may be a subclass, others it might be a pack of NPCs, an additional item, or who knows?

Design Notes from Matthew

This month, we created something that I've been wanting to put together for a long time. It's no secret that the Blade of the Battle Hymn was an item that gave us a lot of exposure very early on into our content creation career. It had a lot of positive buzz around it and I can say that both Fernando and I really enjoyed putting it together.

Since then, I've wanted to create a Paladin subclass centered around it. There's just something about the idea of a plate armor clad, divine warrior singing while they smite the wicked that resonated with me. I wanted the features to feel like a mix of buffs for allies and debuffs for enemies as the flavor of this class is someone that controls the battlefield with their voice rather than their outright might.

I wanted to give them spells that could help in controlling the battlefield and entertaining the world around them. You'll see a lot of socially focused spells on their list and that's by design. I wanted this class to feel relevant in both high culture as well as in the depths of a dungeon. They should feel at home in the fray, but also confident at a soiree.

We're so excited to keep bringing you these "One More Thing" releases in the future. It's a great exercise for us to get out of the rhythm of magic items and create something different. Also we get the added bonus of releasing some additional content for you all to sweeten the pot just a little bit more!
